This is Alfred Hitchcocks The birds, the whole story is about a woman going to
Bodega Bay to drop of some love birds to a man she has just meet. Once getting
to Bodega Bay and finding the man she is ask to stay for the weekend. This is the
start of a long and eventful weekend for Melanie Daniels. As the weekend goes
on birds start attacking more and more, as attacks become more frequently
more birds start migrating to Bodega Bay. the story concerns a small group of
unsatisfied creatures. Two women and a young girl are all fixed on one man (Rod
Taylor), and when a fourth (Tippi Hedren) arrives from San Francisco with a
certain determination in her heart (Jones 1999) with the setting being in a small
bay the group of main actors is small, manly focusing on a single family and the
love interests of the main male character.

Just before the birds attack they seem to gather in a location, a good example of
this is the scene in the playground. As Melanie Daniels sits out side smoking
while the kids are in side singing birds slowly start to arrive at the playground
without Melanie knowing. This scene seems quite funny to modern day

audiences as the camera keeps switching between Melanie and the birds, this
camera switching shows the birds turning up without out her knowing. Xan
Brooks says The crows alight, one by one, in the schoolyard above Bodega Bay.
They are summoned by the nursery rhyme sung by the children, (Brooks 2012)
no one knows why the birds turn up or what they are attracted to too. But during
this scene Melanie believe it is the kids singing that is attracting them, but this
is never proved and later on the birds attack even when there is no loud sounds.

Throughout the whole film people keep asking why the birds keep attacking and
why they have not before. The only thing that people can think of and realise
thats different is that there is a new person at the bay Melanie. People soon
start to believe she is the reason for the attacks. no explanation for why the
birds attack. And since were not told why, were forced to wonder: Why not?
Which is the scariest thought of all. (Lundegaard 2011) even at the end of the
film it is never truly said or explained why the birds attack and it never really has
a prober ending, meaning they just leave it open for either a sequel or just to let
your imagination come up with your own ending.
