Electrical / Lights

Back to Electrical
The exterior lights of series 211 offer the following new
technical features compared to W210:
Emergency light function
Substitute light function in the event of safety-relevant
lights failing
One-touch turn signaling
Ambient lighting (location lighting)
Automatic driving lights on by means of rain/light sensor
Distribution of functions over several control modules
CAN networking of control modules
Actuation of light elements by means of semi-conductor
output stages which switch off in the event of a faulty bulb or
faulty circuit and have to be re-activated by switching on/off
Programmable daytime/driving lights
Exterior light switch (S1)
The lights are operated manually by the exterior light switch
and by the steering column switch.
The exterior light switch contacts are read in by the SAM-D
and the appropriate on or off request
transmitted over the CAN bus. 5 contacts are evaluated:
AFL Automatic driving lights
PL Parking light left
PR Parking light right
FL Driving lights
N/NS Fog light/rear fog light (voltage-coded)

New functions of interior lights

The overhead control panel (OCP) (N70) performs the
master function in the case of the interior lights (see block
diagram).

Rain/light sensor
A combined rain/light sensor is used on model 211 (1 block
unit with 10 lenses).

4 light lenses (4 transmitter and 4 receiver diodes) are

available for the rain sensor function.
The rain/light sensor is linked via an interface to the
overhead control panel and controls:
Intermittent wipe request
Automatic driving lights on request
Daytime/nighttime driving lights on request of interior lights
Note:
The rain/light sensor can be programmed to the windshield
version (white, green, blue glass) with the DAS.

Windshield wiper A reversing wiper is used, that is,
electronics are integrated in the wiper motor. The wiper
motor is actuated by the driver-side SAM via a serial
interface and, if a wipe sweep has already started, it
completes the sweep through to the park position.
