MESSAGE FROM OUR GOVERA'OR

Fellow Members,

What a long, strange trip it has been...and fast! lt is hard to believe two years have gone by already and this
will be my last newsletter, although, I'm thinking of asking Rita for a comedy/op-ed column.
First and foremost, I would like to thank all of the officers, men and women, whom we have worked with over
the past two years. I won't mention all of the names, but I would especially like to thank Tim Speakman. We have worked
closely now for four straight years; going to meetings and conventions together, hanging out and even working together in
the outside world. He left as governor two years ago and the Claymont Moose was as strong as ever. I hope I did not let
him down.

The president of our country recently gave his "State of the Union" address, so here is the State of the Moose
address. Moose lnternational is wounded....not critically, but very seriously! Attendance at meetings and conventions is
down. Membership in the Chapters, Lodges and the Higher Degrees is down significantly. Organized events, trips and
interest in Mooseheart and Moosehaven is way down. So what can we do about it? Get the word out!! The Moose
fraternal organization is the best kept secret. We are like the white fudge covered Oreos that are only available during
the holidays. You love them but don't want to share them because you don't want them to sell out at the store. Well let's
get the word out! Did you tell your friends that live in Florida or Texas that you had a great time at the Moose on Friday
night, that they should check out and join the Moose in their area? We are all in this fraternity together, and as it gets
stronger, we get stronger. Enough of the soap box, but it is serious.
Lastly, I would like to thank Rita Anderson and the Women of the Moose. The Claymont Moose is bucking
the nationaltrend and does have meeting and convention attendance. Volunteerism is up. But most importantly, the
Claymont Moose has something EVERY DAY! We have events, lunches, sandwich nights, Bingo, family dinners,
Karaoke with food, theme parties and a reason to belong to such a great organization. Thank you WOTM.

As my father used to say, "Enjoy what you have, even a blind man knows when the sun is shining."
Fraternally,
Andy Zeager

MESSAGE FROM OUR SE'V'OR REGENT

Dear Members:
Well, what fun l've had since becoming Senior Regent. l've gotten more involved at the Moose Lodge and
have a much better understanding of what the Loyal Order of Moose is all about. l've gotten more involved in the community,
our holiday food drive, and the Claymont Community Christmas parade where we had 25 members join in the parade this year.
We all had a great time. lt would be nice to double that number next year. So l'll be tracking you down to participate in the
parade next year to represent the Claymont Moose Lodge and Chapter.
Our Kelly and Santa's helpers did another great job for the Children's Christmas party. The kids had a blast.
Thank you for all that you and your helpers do every year. Rita, our chef, and her crew gave us a great members' Christmas
party. The food, as always, was delicious and bountiful and the party provided a time to celebrate the Christmas holiday
together. Great job. Thank you.

We rang in the New Year with some 40 people. Everyone brought food donations and we had hats, tiaras, and
horns to celebrate. Sorry I forgot to pop the bubbly at Midnight, but I was worried about getting home right away since I had
to go to work at 6:30 a.m. on New Year's Day. So maybe next year we will pop the bubbly first,
Election of Officers for the upcoming Chapter year is upon us. I ask each of you to strongly consider getting
involved and becoming an officer or committee chairperson.....we need your participation to keep the Chapter in existence.
Please check our Newsletter for the upcoming events that we are planning. You can also check our bulletin board
in the lobby. Thanks to all of you and have a healthy and happy new year.

ln Faith, Hope and Charity,

Lorraine Talarico Smith

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible
for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was
very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. lrritated, the teacher reiterated that a
whale could not swallow a human, it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to
heaven, I will ask Jonah." The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied,

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent
treatment. Suddenly the man realized that the next day he would need his wife to wake him at
5:00 A.M. for an early morning business flight.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper,
"please wake me at 5:00 A.M." He left the note where he knew his wife would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 A.M. and he had missed his

flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't awakened him when he noticed
a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "lt is 5:00 A.M... ...wake up."
