MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the Multicultural Resource Center!
February brought a wealth of change to our campus.
Special thanks to the Black Student Union for their tireless
efforts in crafting a full month of programming in addition
to collaborating with ODEI, Campus Activities and the Vice
President for Multicultural Affairs to sponsor an evening
with Spike Lee on Thursday, February 19th. Special thanks
to the Event Center staff and production team for making
the Spike Lee event a success; there were more than 700
in attendance.
During February ODEI also sponsored its first Racial Justice Deliberation event
and Town Hall Meeting. ODEI Town Hall provided information to the campus in
response to the list of concerns provided to administration in December. University
Administration, including the Vice Presidents, attended to address each concern. The
information provided will guide efforts to transparency across the campus. Change of
this magnitude has never happened before.
March promises even more change in that ODEI, in conjunction with the President,
will present the findings of the Campus Climate Survey completed in 2014. The
event will be held in the University Union Mandela Room on Wednesday, March 11th.
Additionally, we look forward to the presentation of author, poet and activist, Nikki
Giovanni as the Womens History Month Speaker for the Black Student Union.
We urge you to get excited about all that is happening across the campus. Change
is in the air!

Womens History Month
On March 7, 1982, Womens History Week was established by Congress.

Then in 1987, Congress designated March as Womens History Month after

being petitioned by the National Womens History Project. Every year the
National Womens History Project selects a theme to promote womens
history. This year, the theme is Weaving the Stories of Womens Lives.
2015 is also the 35th anniversary of the Womens History Movement and
the National Womens History Project. During this month, we celebrate the
numerous ways that womens history has been woven into Americas story.

out for Womens History Month events hosted by the Black Student Union,
P.U.L.S.E (March 2nd-6th) and other student organizations.

Empowering Students of Color
This group is open for any student who identifies as a student of color. It will discuss issues
of cultural uniqueness and the impact that it has on the balance of work/academic/personal

Womens Group
This group is open to anyone who identifies as a woman, of any background, who is looking
for a safe and supportive atmosphere to discuss what it means to be a woman, and the
impact of that identity in work/academic/personal relationships. The group may also include
therapeutic exercises to help group members build stronger self-concepts and esteem.

The 27th Annual Commemoration of the Anfal Genocide & Fundraiser

for Kurdish Refugees - March 16th, 5:30pm, Mandela Room
This event commemorates those who suffered in the Anfal genocide and will
fundraise for Kurdish refugees. Food donations can also be made. There will be
guest speakers and videos to raise awareness of the current situation.
