We Shall Go Up with Joy: The Entrance Rite

The entrance rite is the entrance of the assembly into their liturgy. All the preparation for Sunday comes
together as the parish assembles in their "church," their "house." We hear ministers and parishioners talk
about their own preparation and the experience of coming together in their church. We observe the
rituals, space, and environment that make this possible. Through the procession, greeting, song, and
prayer, we see how these rites bring so many people to be a church -- ready to listen to God's word, pray,
give thanks together, receive Eucharist, and manifest the love of God all through the week.

Lift Up Your Hearts

The Liturgy of the Eucharist starts quietly with simple things like bread and wine brought forward and a

God thanks and praise for all creation and the saving work of Christ. We see how one community
prepares the table, and themselves. Parishioners speak about the many ways in which their lives have
become more energized at the table of the Lord. This community worked many years on perfecting this
celebration and viewers must keep in mind the enormous work and cooperation that went into this
endeavor.

Say Amen! To What You Are

The sharing of communion at Sunday Mass is surrounded by several actions of the people. We begin
with the strong words of the "Our Father" followed by a greeting of peace. As we sing a litany to the
Lamb of God, the holy gifts are prepared and we process to the table as one body, hungry and thirsty for
the living God. When we hear the words, "the body of Christ," "the blood of Christ," we say "amen" to this
bread, this person, this people - the body of Christ. And finally we are sent out to nourish others as we
have been nourished. With those ingredients we see how a rite done well each Sunday - gracefully,
deliberately, unhurriedly - forms people as Christians and empowers them to live thankful, grateful, giving
lives.
