DIRECTOR: ALBERTO VERME
CERTIFICATE: 12+
DURATION: 5 minutes 30 seconds
Too Little Too Late focuses on the two different lifestyles of two
completely different individuals leading up to a potentially life
changing interview that will change their lives respectively. This film
will follow the different approaches that the same character
Clarence DuPont has towards the interview that they are both
applying to attend for this will range from waking up, getting
changed, eating breakfast, going to the interview and or passing the
interview or being rejected away. The enigma code of Barthes will
be followed throughout the whole film due to the fact that the
audience member will be unaware of the outcome of the film; due to
the film ending with a news archive that illustrates that the World
Financial Crisis of 2008 has begun.
Audience members that are unaware of the short film industry or
have not had any real interest in the short film industry will be on
the edge of their seats throughout the whole film. Through the use
of the different themes and events that the director Alberto Verme is
effectively able to portray, convey and present to the whole of the
audience through his particular film that relates well too many of the
themes that occur in todays society especially in the unemployed
sector. The way in which Alberto Verme is able to present this on
the screen cannot be doubted and is very professionally constructed
to add effect to the non-stop shots that occur in the short film.
Lucas Rossis and Ariana Vermes debuts in the short film help to
emphasize the potential that they have to be extremely successful
in the film industry. The way in which Lucas Rossi acts helps to show
the different themes that the director Alberto Verme is intending to
illustrate throughout the course of the film, through the natural
motions and expressions that he carries out throughout the
production. However, his acting along with Ariana Vermes acting is
plagued and halted due to the fact that there is limited dialogue
throughout the whole film, despite some instances where there is
the use of dialogue this means that the Director through deciding

not to use dialogue has limited the success of his actors that could
have added effect and added value to the overall production.
The target audience of the Rahs and the Creatives is well targeted
through the different events that occur during the course of the film.
The Rahs are attracted and targeted during the course of the film
through the well dressed manor of both of the characters and the
fact that the theme of the film revolves around the climax of the
Financial Crisis; along with targeting the Creatives through the
unconventional split screen that is used and the unexpected ending
of the film with a news archive that is not conventional at all of most
short films. The genre of being a family and partially a documentary
is followed through the fact that despite their being no narration it is
easy to follow and relate to through the different scenes of waking
up, brushing his teeth and going out for a usual day of work. The
reality of the different situations for the individual Clarence DuPont
are not clearly shown but are assumed to be understood by the
Director, that adds effect and clarity to the film because it allows the
audience to understand and perceive the every changing action in
the film as they do fit.
The inspiration that was taken from other short films such as LXIV
and Berliner; is clearly shown through the use of the different and
constant changing of the different shots that are being shown and
captured during the course of the film. These are used in films such
as LXIV and Berliner to show the different lifestyles of the individuals
and are copied in this instance in Too Little Too Late . Moreover,
the links between each film are further strengthened through the
fact that in Too Little Too Late their an instances that show how
easy it is for an individual to become demotivated and not wanting
to go to an interview that could be potentially live changing and how
easy it is for someone to make the most out of an opportunity like
the one that is featured in the interview that takes place. This
instance sends an important message to the audience that it is
important to remain motivated no matter what the circumstances
and take every opportunity that comes ones way as a result.
Despite the fact that there is no use of script apart from some small
instances of dialogue is supported through the use of the fantastic
shots and cinematography that is used during the course of the film.
Due to the use of POV shots, Close Ups and Mid Shots along with the
use of lightning that helps to make particular shots and the short
film more attractive to viewer and enhances the visual appeal of the
film as a result. The bright lighting that is used during the course of
the film helps to express the tone of the film as an upbeat and deep
plot that is emphasized through the difference color ranges that add
to the natural effects of the film. The use of the color allows the
viewer to be prepared and anticipate the narrative and the
continuation of the plot during the course of the film, from one of

the protagonists in one screen having a smooth breakfast whereas

as the other one is rather clumsy and has to redress due to coffee
spilling on his shirt as a result.
The News Archive sequence at the end helps to draw the attention
of the viewer and gives them an unexpected shock that only the
director would have expected, this just adds to creativity and the
thought that was carried out for the short film; but most importantly
sealing the fate of both the characters. This is ultimately what
makes this particular short film so special because of the creativity
and the innovation that was used in the ending of the film through
the use of the non linear structure and the enigma code that is
clearly followed during the duration of the film. On the whole,
hugely recommend going to watch this film and watch out for
Alberto Verme with his directing in years to come if he can deliver
these scintillating short films on a constant basis, along with the
futures of Lucas Rossi and Ariana Verme as actors this film will
change your perception of short films.

Too Little Too Late will be premiered at the Toronto Film Festival,
this will give Alberto Verme the unique and prestigious opportunity
of showcasing his production on a large scale in front of huge
production companies and well recognized directors worldwide. This
film provides an insight into the current financial situation that the
world is experiencing and how it is just as difficult for bright
individuals and unmotivated individuals to gain a job in the current
state of the employment sector and financial. Using the Film
Festival to the Short Films advantage will only enhanced and help to
promote the film around the world and the UK before its release.
This was simply a breathtaking example of the raw and unpolished
talent that there is currently producing short films in the UK
