(From the short story entitled Lifes Shortcuts by Susan V. Ople) There is no shortcut to anywhere worth going. You must write to become a writer. And you must run to become a runner. As Einstein once said, Genius is 1% talent and 99% effort. I grew up in a place where people lived and worked without taking shortcuts, from preparing breakfast in the morning to preparing for supper in the evening. I enjoyed living like that not until we moved in the city where doing things was easier with the help of new technologies which for me is good. Cooking was easier and I dont have to wake up early to fetch water from the well in order for me to take a bath. I spend a lot of time doing nothing because everything can be done instantly. But at the end of the day, I realized that relying to these technologies taught me to be lazy. And I think to myselfthat getting where you want to go in life is not about finding a shortcut, its about putting in the required time and effort. Therefore, I decided to make every single day worthwhile, because life is short so I will take time to enjoy and appreciate every time I have. Gods gift (From the poem entitled Our Mother Tongue) Each of us is unique and special. Our language goes the same way; we have different languages in the world. It makes us unique and it gives us freedom, a freedom to express our feelings, thoughts, and ideas. We learned through our language the different things we need to know for us to grow and also to be successful. I believe that our language is a gift from God so that we will understand each other and therefore have unity. Let us treasure this gift that God has given us and let us used this right and with confidence.
