I've talked a friend into trying Neverwinter, but she doesn't want to download t
he whole game. So I'm just wondering if I can copy my entire Neverwinter install
ation folder to a USB drive and then transfer it over to her PC?
Will this work? Or does she have to download the whole game and install it for
herself?
Cheers.

Yes, it is possible. Did it two days ago.

Yeah. But first you need to start re-installing the game as if you were installi
ng it for the first time. Then once the download starts, stop it and close the c
lient. Copy/Paste the folder with all the files you already downloaded over the
new installation, then restart the game. It will skip over all the files you alr
eady downloaded but will download/patch a few files, but at least you don't have
to redownload everything.

I still have the Neverwinter client I downloaded when the game first released, i
t's version number NW.1.20130403a.4 (so it's hopelessly out of date).

Should I install that version onto my friends PC?

Which files do I need to then Copy/Paste from my own PC to bring her game up to
date?
Thanks a lot for all the help.

It shouldn't matter what version you have for the installer files as they'll be
updated regardless when they login for the first time. I'm at work instead of h
ome right now, so hopefully arcbladez can point you to the default location of t
he installer files.

I've found my installation directory, it's in:
C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Neverwinter\Live
There is a folder called .patch but it's only 7.20MB (that doesn't seem big eno
ugh for all the patches). Should I just install the game using the old installer
and then copy the entire Live folder from my PC and overwrite the Live folder o
n my friends PC?

I Never thought about doing it like that... So, Instead of it taking me 2 hours
at max to re-install a fresh copy of the game plus all the patches it would onl
y take a few minutes or so... D@mn, and here when I re-installed a fresh copy of
Neverwinter I would always just play a different game for those two hours it to
ok to Install and patch, when I could have used the method you outlined an been
able to play in a few minutes :-(

Bummer! I can't figure out which files to Copy/Paste to my friends computer. I c
an install the old version of the client on her machine, but she then has a mass
ive amount of patches to download. It seems like such a waste of time (and downl
oad quota) when I already have the patches, but I can't for the life of me work
out how to update her client using the files from my PC.

I would copy the files in the piggs folder. That is all the data files.

I just copy the entire installation file folder into a DVD. Haven't tried instal
ling from it since the first thing I do when doing a fresh install is to copy th
e entire installation folder into the target computer hard drive first then inst
all from there.

I'm going to try this. I'm going to copy the entire Cryptic Studios folder from
C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Neverwinter\Live
from my PC and paste it into my friends C:\Users\Public\Games directory. I hope
it works.
I'm going to delete all my screenshots first, but is it OK to delete my combat
and error logs too?

The Installation folder is where your downloaded game goes into. It's different
from the actual game folder where it is installed. On my machine and DVD the fol
der is named "Neverwinter NW.1.20130416a.6" and contains the Setup.EXE file, pig
gs and Direct X folders.

e to download all the patches for herself :(

Patching will take a while. And I also suggest turning off the On Demand Patchin
g feature (found in the Options menu in the launcher). It will result in a large
r patch download, but that's better than waiting for entire zones to load becaus
e their files need patching.
Gotta love Patching sessions. Gives me time to enjoy my K-cup coffee or tea fro
m my Keurig coffee maker... and trying to plot revenge against the person who go
t it for me last Christmas as I can no longer think of drinking coffee without o
ne... -_--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly, this is not a snide remark, but didn't you spend much more time on it
already than if you would simply have downloaded it?
Even with a fresh copy, there will still be lots of patching, and basically dow
nloading is the main purpose of the program, so if your friend has a reason for
disliking that..... maybe an MMO is not the right game?
Again, not sniding, just curious.

Yes, you're quite right, but the problem is, we live Australia and we both have
very limited download quotas. I've already downloaded the game (and all patches
) so I was hoping I could save her from having to do the same.
I do envy you Americans, I can't imagine what it's like to have an unlimited In
ternet. You guys are very lucky :)

My internet is unlimited... as long as I don't go over my own quota (which is n
ot easy as I'm single and live alone and I don't download much). If I do go over
my 150GB limit I pay extra. I hear Australia's internet is pretty restrictive t
hanks to an individual named... never mind. I'm sure you know who I'm talking ab
out. Naming and Shaming is something I don't do on Forums. Not even to political
figures.

Don't be too envious, after all we probably have a lower overall bandwidth aver
age than you. :) And many of us do have quotas, but they're so high we never hav
e to worry (like 250GB/month). Even then my quota is a soft line to cross. I can
do more than 250GB a month, but it I do that repeatedly my ISP will throttle my
connection, at least according to third party info.

The game folder is something like 6-13 GB. I just throw the whole thing onto a b
ig thumb or external drive, then copy it back to wherever I want to run it off o
f.

Just go with the setup file to install and then copy over your version of the p
iggs folder. That will get 95% of the patching out of the way.
