LGA 3043E PLAYS AND DRAMA FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

REFLECTION
Alhamdullillah, we finally settle our big project for LGA 3043E which to dramatized a
short story to public, in which we choose our own class to be our targeted audience. It has been
held on 10th March at Dewan Sri Rajang. There are three groups whose presenting the drama
on that day.
Allow me to show my greatest appreciation to my respected lecturer, Madam Norzillah.
The presence of Madam Norzillah, in guiding me throughout the tasks had contributed a lot in
helping me completing my assignment. Her hard work in delivering lots of useful knowledge to
my friends and me in the class for this semester would be in vain. Madam Norzillah did her part
in explaining things that we do not understand and commenting on our drafts of our assignment
and the plays script. I really appreciate all the positive and negative comments that she gave. I
take all the comments as the opportunity for me to learn to be more effective in teaching my
pupils in future.
Drama is a powerful means of transmitting ideas, and one that has been censored from
nearly the first organized performances in the Greek Golden Age around 500 B.C.E. Throughout
history, changing political, social, and religious power structures have used drama as a
propaganda tool, and these structures have also demanded the elimination or modification of
plays that do not agree with their philosophies. (J. Thomas, 2009). As it is defined as a powerful
tool to communicate, drama and plays also can be used as effective ways to deliver knowledge
among the students in creative ways which 99% can arouse the students interest.
Getting back on my reflection, before we perform our play we had to undergo a few
preliminary process. Such as, the process of selecting, process of adapting and last but not
least process of performing. It is essential and vital for us to be fully prepared before performing
our play. All the important aspects need to be considered before we could perform the play. This
is to prevent any unwanted incidents to happen and befall on us. In the midst of selecting the
script to be used for our group play, we had a minor setback. They are so many good script to
choose from, each of and every one of our group members script have their own strong
qualities. It took us quite a while to pick the most suitable and appropriate script to be used for
our group play. In the end we had agreed upon to make a twisted tales. Whereas, we combined
four stories in one story. Loriana (The Boy Who Cried a Wolf), George (Hansel and Gretel), Ting

Fang Kai (Goldilocks and the Three Bears) and mine (Little Red Riding Hood). We combined all
these stories. We had showed our script to Madam Norzillah and she made few corrections on
it. The script is the most important aspect of the project. The script is the blueprint or template of
the play. Like a blueprint for a physical construction, such as a house or multiple level building, if
its faulty the building will fail. It is impossible to envision a play without a script, as the script is
the base for what appears on stage.
Besides that, as our group scriptwriter I had included the sound effects, lightning effects,
and facial expression in our script. I asked my group member who are expert in sound, Ting
Fang Kai and George who are capable to design a creative background. Sounds and graphics
are very important in play its give big influence to the audience.
In a play, not a single word is arbitrary. The director and the actors in a production
attribute a value and a reason to every action and every utterance. The set is carefully designed
to work within the physical requirements of the script, as well as the specific needs of a
particular production. Lights are integrated into the mood of the piece to create a specific
atmosphere. To ensure their continuity with the rest of the production, costumes are not created
until the director approves the renderings. Sound design works the same way. The silences-as
well as the dog barks and musical underscoring are determined by specific aesthetic
decisions. (D. Kaye & J. LeBrecht, 2009).
When it came to practice part we decided to change our script and we used Shirleys
script which is entitled Frozen. Elsa, Princess of Arendelle, possesses cryokinetic powers, with
which she is able to produce ice, frost and snow at will. One night while playing, she
accidentally injures her younger sister, Princess Anna. Their shocked parents, the king and
queen, seek help from the troll king, who heals Anna and removes her memories of Elsa's
magic. The royal couple isolates the children in their castle until Elsa learns to control her
powers. Afraid of hurting Anna again, Elsa spends most of her time alone in her room, and a rift
develops between the sisters as they grow up. When the girls are teenagers, their parents die at
sea during a storm. When Elsa comes of age, the kingdom prepares for her coronation as
queen. Among the guests is the Duke of Weselton, who seeks to exploit Arendelle for profit.
Excited to be allowed out of the castle again, Princess Anna explores the town and meets
Prince Hans of the Southern Isles; the two quickly develop a mutual attraction. Despite Elsa's
fears, her coronation transpires without incident. During the reception, Hans proposes to Anna,
who hastily accepts. However, Elsa refuses to grant her blessing and forbids their sudden

marriage. The sisters argue, culminating in the exposure of Elsa's abilities in an emotional
outburst.
Panicking, Elsa flees the castle, while inadvertently unleashing an eternal winter on the
kingdom. High in the nearby mountains, she abandons her restraint, vowing to never return and
building herself a solitary ice palace. Anna sets out in search of her sister, determined to return
her to Arendelle, end the winter, and mend their relationship. While obtaining supplies, she
meets an iceman named Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven, and convinces Kristoff to guide her up
the North Mountain. On their journey, the group encounters Olaf, Anna and Elsa's childhood
snowman whom the latter unknowingly brought to life, who leads them to Elsa's hideaway. Anna
and Elsa reunite, but Elsa still fears hurting her sister. When Anna insists that Elsa return, she
becomes agitated and her powers lash out, accidentally striking Anna in the heart. Horrified,
Elsa forces Anna, Kristoff and Olaf to leave by creating a giant snow creature that chases them
away from her palace. As they flee, Kristoff notices Anna's hair turning white and deduces that
something is very wrong. He seeks help from the trolls, his adoptive family, who explain that
Anna's heart has been frozen by Elsa. Unless it can be thawed by an "act of true love", she will
become frozen solid forever. Believing that only Hans can save her with a true love's kiss,
Kristoff races back with her to Arendelle.
Meanwhile, Hans, who is leading a search for Anna, reaches Elsa's palace. In the
ensuing battle against the duke's men, Elsa is knocked unconscious and imprisoned in
Arendelle. There, Hans pleads with her to undo the winter, but Elsa confesses that she has no
idea how. When Anna reunites with Hans and begs him to kiss her to break the curse, Hans
refuses and reveals that his true intention in marrying her is to seize control of Arendelle's
throne. Leaving Anna to die, he charges Elsa with treason for her younger sister's apparent
death. Elsa escapes and heads out into the blizzard on the fjord. Olaf comes across Anna and
reveals Kristoff is in love with her; they then escape onto the fjord to find him. Hans confronts
Elsa, telling her Anna is dead because of her. In Elsa's despair, the storm suddenly ceases,
giving Kristoff and Anna the chance to locate each other. Nevertheless, Anna, seeing that Hans
is about to kill Elsa, throws herself between the two just as she freezes solid, blocking Hans'
attack.
As Elsa grieves for her sister, Anna begins to thaw, since her decision to sacrifice herself
to save her sister constitutes an "act of true love". Realizing love is the key to controlling her
powers, Elsa thaws the kingdom and helps Olaf survive in summer. Hans is deported to the

Southern Isles to face punishment for his crimes against the royal family of Arendelle, while Elsa
cuts off trade with Weselton. Overjoyed, Anna and Kristoff share a kiss. The two sisters
reconcile and Elsa promises never to shut the castle gates again.
We change the story because we run out of time. We had to prepare props. We all
agreed to that. We had two days to practice our play. We never had the change to run our play
smoothly. Madam said our play was too fast but we have a nice sound and musical effect on our
play. We had great costumes and props in the play. Madam suggested that we should take
more time in the dialogues. I wish that I could improve more on our weaknesses and practice on
the voice projection.
Overall, this play is the first experience of planning and performing play, directing,
adapting the script and acting. I am glad that this assignment had come to the end. I would like
to thanks to all my friends and my lecturer for successfully taking part in the play.
