PALFINGER
in the Middle East
UMBRELLA RULE
Large-scale sunshade project in Saudi Arabia
250 sunshades arranged in a square around the mosque in Medina. A
project implemented with substantial participation by PALFINGER
delivers impressive images from the Arab world. Medina, the radiant
city in the western part of Saudi Arabia, is the second most important
holy city in Islam after Mecca and the destination of huge numbers of
pilgrims from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of Moslems
visit every summer gathering in the squares around the mosque. The
Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is one of the five pillars of Islam and takes
place annually during the month of Dhu al-Hijjah (the 12th and last
month in the cycle of the Islamic calendar). While the Hajj as a major
pilgrimage is only carried out during certain days of the year (8th to
12th Dhu al-Hijjah), the minor pilgrimage known as Umra can take
place at any time.
The sunshades around the mosque provide the pilgrims with protection from the sun. The Shade Project was executed on behalf of Madinah Haram, the municipal administration of Medina, under the lead
management of the Saudi Liebherr Company Ltd. A PALFINGER
PK 20002 Performance truck-mounted crane was used to erect the sunshade mountings and the sunshades themselves as well as to install the
generators and accessories. Supplied and mounted by AMI Arabian
Metal Industries from Jeddah, the truck-mounted crane coped brilliantly with its assignments over the projects three year duration. Its
precision and maneuverability thanks to the sophisticated crane geometry paid off particularly well during the difficult installation assignments. ]
PALFINGER
strong in the Arab world
PALFINGER truck-mounted cranes are becoming more and more
familiar on the roads and construction sites of the Middle East. They
are used mainly for transshipment in the building trade and ancillary
building trades in addition to assignments for governments, local
authorities and electricity supply companies. Cranes of the PW range
are particularly popular for delivering and distributing pallets of bricks
to construction sites with the specific requirement of lifting the pallets
up to the 3rd floor.
BIG deal in Saudi Arabia. 40 brick cranes (PW 360 / PW 400) for
the Saudi Red Bricks Company Al-Amoudi. PALFINGER partner
Arabian Metal Industries (AMI) was the project manager.
