Introduction:
The City of Kyoto and the Consortium of Universities in Kyoto have launched Kyoto Study
Program: from Anime to Zen, a non-degree 2-week program offering students an excellent
introduction to Japanese society and culture. The Curriculum is well balanced, and students will
investigate diverse aspects of Japanese society and culture while staying in Kyoto, a cultural centre
rich in history. All classes will be taught in English by renowned subject specialists, from among the
dozens of universities and colleges in Kyoto. In addition to the courses offered, there are a number
of field trips and special events, including interaction with local students.
Kyoto is recognised as not only a touristic city but also a major student one in Japan, with 50
universities and colleges in and around, and 147,000 students accounting for 10% of the city's total
population.
According to the QS Best Student Cities 2015 rankings, Kyoto has jumped to 34th
position, climbing 16 places since 2014, indicating its great desirability as a learning environment.
