Pathways Kids Midweek Small Groups Ages 6-12

This Weeks Scope

Bible Story: The BEST Laid Plan (crucifixion) Mark 11:1-11; 14:4315:47
Bottom Line: Remember that Gods plan is bigger than yours.
Monthly Memory Verse: Wait for the LORD. Be strong and dont lose hope. Wait for the LORD. Psalm
27:14, NIrV
Life App: Patiencewaiting until later for what you want now.
Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

This week, were discovering:

Mark 11:1-11; 14:4315:47. The world had been waiting for a Messiaha Rescuer. And when Jesus
finally showed up on the scene, His disciples were ready. They figured this was it. Jesus would be the
King and their waiting would be over. When Jesus was found guilty and crucified, they must have felt so
defeated. They didnt know at the time that God had something different in mind, something better for
the whole world.
Bottom Line: Remember that Gods plan is bigger than yours. When youre having a hard time
waiting, remember that God has a plan for your and its life bigger and better than you could ever
imagine.
Our memory verse is Psalm 27:14. Wait for the Lord. Be strong and dont lose hope. Wait for the
Lord! (NIrV) When having patience seems too difficult, the Lord will give us strength to wait.

Large Group Game (PK Konnect)

Rescue Relay
What You Need: Prepared index cards, tape
What You Do:
You can do this as a large group or small group activity. It is written as a large group activity.
One kid from each Small Group will start as the rescuer and will go to one side of the environment.
The Small Group Leaders will tape an index card to the back of the remaining kids in each Small Group
(so that each Small Group has the entire verse) and the kids will stand across the room from the
rescuer. On a signal, the rescuer will go rescue someone from his Small Group by running down
and linking arms with the person and running back. The newest rescued member becomes the
rescuer and runs to rescue another person. Then, when all everyone in the Small Group has been
rescued, the kids sit down so the memory verse is in order. The first team sitting with the memory
verse in the correct order wins.
What You Say:
God has a plan for all of us. [Apply] Now, I dont know ALL God has planned for me or ALL He
has planned for you, but I do know sometimes we need to wait for Him to show us the way. And I
know we can have hope because we can [Recycle] trust God no matter what. And I know Gods plan
will always be bigger and better than any plan we can think of! [Impress] Remember that Gods plan
is bigger than yours.

Small Group Activity (PK Konnect)

Gods Big Plan
What You Need: Cross Instructions Activity Pages, scissors
What You Do:
Tell the story below while folding the paper following the instructions on the Activity Page and end with
cutting the paper. Take your time doing thisdont rush through the story. Hopefully you can unfold the
cross as you finish reviewing the story. After the story, if you have time, let the kids try making the paper
cross too.
What You Say:
The disciples had a plan for Jesus. However Gods plan was bigger than what the disciples could even
imagine. People everywhere needed to be rescued from sin and God had a BIG plana plan to rescue
them all. God told us His plan in the Bible, and we can read about it! When we read the story, we see
that at first the people were cheering for Jesus as He rode into Jerusalem, but not many days later,
Jesus was being sent to the cross to die.
This was a sad day and probably so confusing for the disciples who just didnt understand all God had
planned. But Gods plan was BIG, and He knew a happy ending was coming! We know how the story
ends, but at the time Jesus disciples had to wait. I can only imagine how sad, confused and scared
they were. The disciples had to trust God no matter what. They didnt understand what was happening
and why Jesus had to die. But God understood. What Jesus enemies meant for evil to harm Jesus,
God had always planned to use for goodfor OUR good. Because Jesus death means you and I dont
have to pay the price for our sinour sin that separates us from a perfect and loving God. [Apply] God
loved us so much He sent Jesus to rescue us, and Gods plan was bigger than the disciples
plan, and bigger than anything you or I could ever come up with. [Impress] Remember that
Gods plan is bigger than yours. (Hold up finished cross.)
Postcard from God
What You Need: 4x6 index cards, pens, markers
What You Do:
Ask kids if theyve ever sent or received a postcard. Talk about how a postcard is different from a letter.
(Its shorter; it contains just the highlights of a trip; it has a picture.)
Set out the markers and give each of the kids an index card. Ask them to decorate one side of the card
with words, pictures, or a design that illustrates todays Bottom Line: [Impress] remember that Gods
plan is bigger than yours. On the back, ask them to write a postcard from God to them. Prompt them
with the following question: What do you think God would say to you about His plan and about His
Son? When finished, allow those who are willing to share their postcards with the others. Close in
prayer.
What You Say:
Dear God, its easy for us to go through our day and not even think about all that Youve done for us
and continue to do. [Apply] This week, help us see past what were going through and remember
that Your plan is bigger and better than ours. Help us to wait with patience when we feel like
losing our cool. Help us put our hope, our trust, and our whole lives in Your hands. In Jesus
name, amen.
