Hymn of Praise
Hosanna, Hosanna to the King,
Hosanna, Hosanna to the King,
We love You, we love You,
We love You, Christ our King.

LUke 19:37-40 (CeV)

When Jesus was starting down the

Mount of Olives, his large crowd of
disciples were happy and praised
God because of all the miracles they
had seen. 38 They shouted, Blessed
is the king who comes in the name of
the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory
to God. 39Some Pharisees in the
crowd said to Jesus, Teacher, make
your disciples stop shouting! 40But
Jesus answered, If they keep quiet,
these stones will start shouting.
---------------------------37

LUke 19:37-40
(The Message)

LUke 19:37-40 (niV)

When he came near the place
where the road goes down the
Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of
disciples began joyfully to praise God
in loud voices for all the miracles
they had seen: 38Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the
highest! 39Some of the Pharisees in
the crowd said to Jesus, Teacher,
rebuke your disciples! 40I tell you,
he replied, if they keep quiet, the
stones will cry out.
37

Right at the crest, where Mount

Olives begins its descent, the
whole crowd of disciples burst into
enthusiastic praise over all the
mighty works they had witnessed:
Blessed is he who comes, the king
in Gods name! Alls well in heaven!
Glory in the high places! 39Some
Pharisees from the crowd told him,
Teacher, get your disciples under
control! 40But he said, If they kept
quiet, the stones would do it for
them, shouting praise.

Lenten Meditation
eVenT ALonG The RoAD
Son, I have just had the most amazing experience of my whole life. As I was walking
out toward the edge of town, I heard some shouting and singing from a group of people
coming up from Bethany, cutting palm branches and laying them in the road. In the
midst of them, I saw a man riding on a donkey. One glance and I knew immediately that
it must be this Jesus, whom everyone is talking about. I had heard so many folks speak
of him, but so often people get excited about something or someone, who turns out to
be simply another dreamer, or maybe a charlatan. With the entire hubbub, though, I
thought at least I would go and investigate.
I watched with amazement and everyone around me seemed as impressed as I was. I
listened to the mans words. I sensed his sincerity. No one who spoke as he did; he could
possibly be a fraud. (You know that I am not easily carried away.) Up until then, I had
doubted the tales of his healing. Reports of what he taught seemed too good to be true.
It was the man, himself, who won me over. It was like having God suddenly appear on
earth.
I still do not know quite who he is, but I want to learn more. You know how disappointed
I have been with some of our religious leaders who seem unfaithful to the words of the
law and the prophets. Here was someone different! He was not like that. His words rang
true and gave me hope. He seems to embody some sort of eternal hope. He speaks of
life as it should be.
This father and son are imaginary, but Jesus is real. The road from Bethany is part of our
road. Jesus rides and walks there, before us and beside us. Hosanna! Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord! (Matthew 21:9)

Lenten Fast
Fasting for the Lenten Season
For 2015, as a church, we are being called to Renew,
Reclaim, Restore, Reconnect Renewing our
relationship with God, Reclaiming our African heritage,
Restoring justice and mercy, and Reconnecting to our
community. During this Lenten season, as we are
called to a church-wide fast, we should also be sure
to take advantage of our Reset cards each Sunday
for scriptural nuggets and a unifying prayer. Fasting
is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our
relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not fast to lose
weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. In
2015, as we seek to Renew our relationship with God,
God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life if
you dare fast, pray, study and learn the power of quiet
time. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and
spend time with his Father in the mountains, to pray,
study, reflect, meditate, and center his spirit. If fasting
and prayer were the disciplines of Jesus, should not
this be followed by us? Join with us this season and
witness a breakthrough as we fast, pray, study, reflect,
meditate and learn the power of quiet time.
Question: i have never fasted before?
Answer: Consult your doctor first!* Fasting is not the
removal of all food from your diet. Fasting is learning
to discipline your mind, body and spirit to remove
something you know hinders your ability to function
at your highest capacity, from your life or diet.
Question: is fasting biblical?
Answer: Fasting is biblical. Throughout the Old and
New Testaments, fasting was used by the people
of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge, hear
Gods voice before making a major decision, and for
removing destructive forces in your life.
Fast #1 - Fasting to confront destructive forces
February 18 February 24
Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m.
February 25 March 3
Eat only two meals before 6:00 p.m.
March 4 March 10 - Eat only one meal a
day before 6:00 p.m.
March 11 March 17
Drink only juices, water and/or tea

March 29, 2015

March 18 March 24
Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m.
March 25 April 4
Slowly begin to add meat to your diet
Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book of
Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the Babylonians,
he asked of the Babylonians if he, along with Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego, could fast eating only fruits
and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront
the Babylonian king.
February 18 February 24
Eat all meals before 6:00 p.m.
February 25 March 3
Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m.
March 4 March 10
Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m.
March 11 March 17
Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may
be added.
March 18 March 24
Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat
may be added
March 25 April 4
Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m.
Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from your
diet or life. One type of fasting is to remove certain
foods from your diet, such as fried foods, sweets,
sodas or refined sugar and/or flour.
*Please seek the advice of your primary care
provider/doctorbeforebeginningafastthatinvolves
restricting food/calories and/or medication. Your
doctor can help you design a fasting plan that

Progressive! In a disturbing trend, restaurants
(whether sit down or unhealthy fast food) are
rapidly disappearing from our community, and so,
too, are jobs for local residents.
Food deserts that already plague our neighborhoods
only exacerbate the issue of dollars leaving our
community, rendering us both unhealthy and even
less empowered.
That is why in late 2014, Endeleo Health was
asked to become part of a Community Advisory
Committee comprised of organizations working
in Chicago communities with limited access to
healthy, affordable food options. The goal of the
Community Advisory Committee is to improve
residents and existing food retailers awareness of
healthier food options through education, outreach
and community organizing.
Sponsored by the Chicago Community Loan Fund
(CCLF), the Healthy Food Financing Initiative (HFFI)
provided Endeleo funding to engage residents
within a two-mile radius along the 95th Street
Corridor, from Halsted to Cottage Grove (the future
home of the Imani Village project), on how to
develop sustainable Healthy Community Plans.
