1. (a) What are the different linear IC packages?


(b) What is the input impedance of a non-inverting op-amp amplifier?
(c) Design an inverting amplifier with an input resistance of 10KΩ and a gain of

2. (a) Draw and explain the operation of a current to voltage converter. If 741 IC is
used, what is the lowest value of current that can be measured?
(b) Draw the fundamental log-amp circuit and derive the output voltage expres-

3. (a) Determine VT H and VT L and hysteresis of the inverting comparator shown in


the below figure3a.

ation of a triangular wave.
(b) Determine the component values for a control voltage Vc =9 volts and a fre-
quency of oscillation=10KHz. Make necessary assumptions. [10+6]

6. (a) Draw the functional schematic of 555 timer and describe in detail how this IC
can be used to realize a monostable multivibrator.
(b) Draw the pin diagram of 555 timer IC. [12+4]

7. (a) Explain the operation of a multiplying DAC and mention its applications.

(b) A 12-bit D to A converter has a full-scale range of 15 volts. Its maximum
differential linearity error is ± 1/2 LSB.
i. What is the percentage resolution?
ii. What are the minimum and maximum possible values of the increment in

8. (a) Define the terms ‘Aperture time’ and ‘Droop rate’ of a Sample & Hold circuit.
(b) With a neat circuit diagram explain the operation of an OP-AMP based Sam-
ple & Hold circuit.

1. (a) Define slew rate? What causes the slew rate?


(b) How is slew rate measured? Explain.

2. (a) What are the advantages of instrumentation amplifier? Derive an expression
for the transfer function of an instrumentation amplifier.
(b) Explain the use of reference terminal provided in an integrated circuit
instrumentation amplifiers. [10+6]
3. (a) Design a differentiator to differentiate an input signal that varies in frequency
from 10 Hz to about 1KHz. If a sine wave of 1V peak at 1000Hz is applied to
this differentiator draw the output wave forms.
(b) Why active differentiator circuits are not used in analog computer to solve
differential equations? [10+6]
4. (a) In a second-order high pass Butterworth filter C2 = C3 = 0.047µf, R2 =R3 =
3.3KΩ, R1 = 27 KΩ and RF =15.8 KW. Determine the low cutoff frequency
fL of the filter.
(b) Obtain the frequency response and plot for the filter. [8+8]
5. (a) With suitable circuit diagram explain the operation of a triangular wave gen-
erator using a comparator and an integrator.
(b) In the above circuit if the integrator components are R1 =120KΩ and C1 =0.01
µFand the feedback resistor in the comparator stage is 6.8KΩ, the input re-
sistor at non inverting terminal is 1.2KΩ, determine
i. Peak-to-peak triangular output amplitude
ii. The frequency of triangular wave. [8+8]
6. Draw the functional diagram of a 555 time IC and explain the function of each
internal block to obtain astable multivibrator operation. [16]
7. (a) Explain the operation of a multiplying DAC and mention its applications.

1. (a) An op-amp has a slew rate of 2V/µs. What is the maximum frequency of an
output sinusoid of peak value 5V at which the distortion sets in due to the
slew rate limitation.
(b) If the sinusoid of 10V peak is specified, what is the full power band width?

2. (a) Explain the effect of frequency on the behavior of the virtual ground in an
inverting configuration of an op-amp.
(b) Mention some applications of an instrumentation amplifier. [8+8]

3. (a) Design a non-inverting comparator with output levels stabilizes at ±5V and
VT L = 0 and VT H = 2.5V (TL: Lower threshold, TH: upper threshold) as shown
in the figure3b
(b) For the given inverting Schmitt trigger, calculate its higher and lower trigger
levels. [8+8]

5. (a) With suitable circuit diagram, explain in detail the operation of a saw tooth
wave generator.
(b) List an application of sawtooth waveform.
(c) What are the differences between a saw tooth waveform and a triangular

6. (a) Describe two methods to achieve 50% duty cycle in 555 timer astable multi-
vibrator.
(b) Explain the realization of Schmitt trigger using a 555 timer IC. [8+8]

7. (a) Sketch and explain the transfer characteristic of a DAC with necessary equa-
tions.
(b) LSB of a 9-bit DAC is represented by 19.6 m Volts. If an input of 9 zero bits
is represented by 0 volts.
i. Find the output of the DAC for an input, 10110 1101 and 01101 1011
ii. What is the Full scale Reading (FSR) of this DAC? [8+8]

8. (a) Explain the requirement of a Sample & Hold circuit in an Analog to Digital
converter.
(b) Explain the operation of a counter type Analog to Digital converter
(c) An 8-bit counter type ADC is driven by a 500 KHz clock. Find the maximum

and an input resistance of at least 10kΩ, specify the suitable components to
achieve the required specifications.
(b) Draw the ideal and practical frequency response curves of Low pass filter, High
pass filter, Band pass filter and Band rejection filter. [8+8]
5. (a) For a square wave generator with the component values listed below, design an
integrator circuit to convert the square wave to a triangular wave. Negative
feedback resistor = 10KΩ, capacitor = 0.05µF , positive feedback resistor
=11.6KΩ, input resistor at + terminal = 10KΩ Assume IC µA 741 with ±15
volt power supplies.
(b) What is the requirement for the positive feedback resistance to be a poten-
tiometer?
(c) What are the difficulties in obtaining high frequencies of oscillation with such
square wave generators? [6+4+6]
6. (a) What are the difficulties in achieving 50% duty cycle in the basic 555 timer
astable multivibrator?
(b) Indicate one method to overcome this difficulty to achieve 50% duty cycle.
(c) Design a 555 timer astable multivibrator operating at 18 KHz with 40% duty
cycle. [6+4+6]
7. (a) Describe any two applications of NE565 PLL IC with relevant Circuit dia-
grams.
