JMG participates in Pennies for Patients

The Jobs for Montana Graduates (JMG) class recently

conducted its Pennies for Patients campaign in
Glasgow and it was a huge success, thanks to the local
people and businesses who assisted the students with
collecting change. JMG students are, back row (left to

Josey Uphaus, Kaleb Cole, and Hunter Rankin.

Since 1994, millions of dollars have been raised in
pennies and other spare change by more than 10 million
elementary, middle and high school students throughout
the country. The funds, collected during a three-week
period, benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Glasgows Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday at Hoyt Park

The Kiwanis Clubs annual Easter Egg Hunt
will be held on Saturday, April 4th beginning at
11:00 at Hoyt Park (between the Glasgow Civic
Center and the Glasgow City Pool).

Sponsored by Reynolds Market and the

Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, the
kids will go out in groups of ages 1-3, 4-5
and 6-8.

Highlanders perform
well at Montana Open

The Montana Open this past weekend in Billings

signified the end of folkstyle wrestling season with
OVER 1,500 wrestlers from around the region gathering
at the Metra.

We had some outstanding individual performances,
including some that came up just a match or two short
of the podium in some huge weight classes, Coach
Brady Flaten was pleased to report. All of our wrestlers
benefited from this weekends great competition at the
Metra!

Nine Highlanders did manage to place at this
prestigious Montana Open! They were:

So, nine of the 30 Glasgow Wrestling Club
participants placed at the Open. 30 wresterls were the
third most by a class B town in the state, only fewer than
the two from Yellowstone County where the tournament
was held. The Highlanders qualified as a LARGE team
in standings.

There are now six cooks committed for the 4th

Annual Cuisine for the Cure, and six more are needed
before tickets can go on sale.

The 4th Annual Cusine for the Cure will be held at
the Elks Lodge on Thursday, April 23rd from 6:00-7:30

Heirloom Quilters to meet

The Heirloom Quilters monthly meeting is on

Monday, April 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Glasgow Seniors
Citizens Center. For those wishing to come early to sew
the doors will open at 5:00.

2016 DC Trip being planned

There will be a meeting on Wednesday, April 8th
at 6:00 p.m. in room 4 at Glasgow High School for
any Sophomores or Juniors (next years Juniors and
Seniors) from Glasgow, Nashua, Opheim or Hinsdale
that would like to go to Washington, D.C. in March of
2016.
It is asked that a parent please accompany their
son or daughter at this meeting. For more information,

Looking at licensing price hikes

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is at the expected

point in time where current funding wont sustain todays
programs and services as Montanas fish and wildlife
management budget faces a $5.75 million shortfall.

The funding gap will be addressed by the upcoming
Montana Legislature where solutions will come down to
three choicesin whole or in part:
fishing and hunting license-fee adjustments;
further cuts to fish and wildlife management
programs;
a shift of earmarked funds away from specific
programs.
In 2013, to find simple, fair and stable sources of
revenue for fish and wildlife conservation, Governor
Steve Bullock asked FWP Director Jeff Hagener to
appoint an independent citizens group to serve on the
License and Funding Advisory Council.

Following review of the councils recommendations
by a legislative oversight committee, a $3 fishing license
increase and an $8 hunting license increase are being
proposed.

Those adjustments would solve most of the funding
problem and maintain fish and wildlife opportunities at
todays levels.

10 things about the 2015 License Fee Proposal FWP
wants you to know:
1. Why is this necessary?
FWP has operated for more than a generation on a
unique budget cycle that asks the Montana Legislature
to consider new hunting and fishing license fees once
per decade. The last general increase for residents
was approved in 2005, which was predicted to keep
FWP financially stable for 10 yearsor until now.
2. Whats been done so far?
Two years ago, FWP permanently cut $1.2 million
from its budget and shifted $2 million more from
state hunting and fishing license dollars to federal
funding. Cuts were made to wildlife and fisheries
programs, shooting range grants and administrative
costs. Shifts to federal revenue were possible because
of a spike in firearm and ammo sales, which is not
expected to be a sustainable trend.
3. Where does FWPs fish and wildlife conservation
revenue come from?
About 70 percent of the revenue needed to manage
Montanas fish and wildlife comes from licenses
purchased by hunters and anglers, nearly 70 percent

4. Are there other proposed cost
adjustments?
Yes. Seniors would receive a
discounted license at age 67 versus
the current age of 62, and the price
of most free and discounted licenses
would be standardized at 50 percent
of the normal price.
5. Will nonresident fees be considered?
There would be some upward
adjustments to nonresident fishing
licenses and a cap on fees for
nonresident deer and elk combination
licenses. Some nonresident fees were
increased when I-161 was approved
by voters in 2011.
7. If approved, how much revenue
would these adjustments generate?
Proposed legislation would generate
$5.75 million annually.

8. What would be lost if fees arent

adjusted?
The Legislatures remaining choices,
in whole or in part, will boil down to
program cuts or shifting earmarked
funds. If program cuts are chosen,
FWP will have to consider closing
some fish hatcheries, ending some
upkeep at fishing access sites, cutting
game damage response efforts,
reducing enforcement efforts and
more. If shifts of earmarked funds are
favored by the Legislature, accounts
used to run 23 programs would need to
be cut entirely or by at least 40 percent
per program to include upland game
bird habitat enhancement, Block
Management, Habitat Montana, and
wolf monitoring, to name a few.
9. Who will make the ultimate decision
as to whether or not fees will be
adjusted?
The Montana Legislature sets hunting
and fishing license fees.
10. How can I participate?
