ANGLE OF SLOPE
Chutes within wash and flotation plants should be installed at the maximum possible
slope. Preferably the minimum slope should be 65 to the horizontal. Horizontal
chutes should be avoided at all costs.
1.2
The following design criteria should be used in the detail design of chutes within
wash and flotation plants. All the minimum angles listed below refer to the angle of
chute to the horizontal. Where valley angles are involved these are applicable to the
valley angle not the angle of the bottom of the chute. Note that the valley angle is the
resulting angle formed when a chute is sloping in two directions.
CONSTRUCTION
2.1
2.2
All chutes are to be provided with large, quick opening inspection doors accessible
from a floor level or intermediate platform. Particular care should be taken to insure
that doors are provided above the impingement point. The doors are to be secured
by wedge fasteners and hinges. The hinges are to be of the lug and pin type with a
minimum pin diameter of 10 mm. The doors should be made dust tight with soft
rubber or foam plastic sealing strips. All alternatives to this design must be reviewed
and approved by the Owners Engineer.
SIZE OF CHUTE
3.1
The size of each chute will relate not only to its capacity but also to the size of the
openings on the particular items of equipment to which it is attached. Since the two
items of equipment connected by chute will seldom have identical openings at least a
part of the chute will be in the form of a taper transition piece. Where the chute is
relatively short or where the inlet and outlet openings are considerably different it
may be that the entire chute will be a transition piece. Care must be taken in the
design of transition pieces to insure that they comply with the angle of slope and
valley angle requirements throughout the length of the chute.
SPECIAL CHUTES
4.1
The guidelines given in the sections above are applicable to chutework in general.
However they do not necessarily apply where special cases are concerned. A
specific example of a special case would be the chute between the ore Feed
Conveyors and the Ore Feed Diverters and Chutes to the Feed Bin.
