Allright, brothers and sisters, in this occasion I would like to deliver my speech by
the tittle Laughter is the best medicine. Why, I took this tittle today ? Because I think
this is one important thing for us to know. There are many easy things can we do, but
very important and bring benefit to us, such laughing. We know everyday we always
laugh, even that cause there are something funny, because feel happy, or the other
ways to make us must laughing. But, now I wouldnt tell about why we laugh, how can
we laugh, how to be a good laughter But, Im here to say that we can get much
advantage or benefit of laughing especially for our health. I will say, that y can heal
some disease of our body, can protect and control our health. Like a medicine,
apparently laughing can heal us from cancer, senility, high pressure of blood, heart

disease, aging and etc. Oke, here I will explain more detail of the benefit of laughing as
the best medicinie.
We change physiologically when we laugh. We stretch muscles throughout our
face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending
more oxygen to our tissues. People who believe in the benefits of laughter say it can be
like a mildworkout -- and may offer some of the same advantages as a workout. "The
effects of laughter and exercise are very similar," says Wilson. "Combining laughter
and movement, like waving your arms, is a great way to boost your heart rate ."
One pioneer in laughter research, William Fry, claimed it took ten minutes on a rowing
machine for his heart rate to reach the level it would after just one minute of hearty
laughter. And laughter appears to burn calories, too. Maciej Buchowski, a researcher
from Vanderbilt University, conducted a small study in which he measured the amount of
calories expended in laughing. It turned out that 10-15 minutes of laughter burned 50
calories. While the results are intriguing, don't be too hasty in ditching that treadmill.
One piece of chocolate has about 50 calories; at the rate of 50 calories per hour, losing
one pound would require about 12 hours of concentrated laughter.
Dear Brothers and sisters,.
Laughter's Effects on the Body
In the last few decades, researchers have studied laughter's effects on the body and
turned up some potentially interesting information on how it affects us:

Blood flow. Researchers at the University of Maryland studied the effects on

blood vessels when people were shown either comedies or dramas. After the screening,
the blood vessels of the group who watched the comedy behaved normally -- expanding
and contracting easily. But the blood vessels in people who watched the drama tended
to tense up, restricting blood flow.

Immune response. Increased stress is associated with decreased immune

system response, says Provine. Some studies have shown that the ability to use humor
may raise the level of infection-fighting antibodies in the body and boost the levels of
immune cells, as well.

Blood sugar levels. One study of 19 people with diabetes looked at the effects
of laughter on blood sugar levels. After eating, the group attended a tedious lecture. On
the next day, the group ate the same meal and then watched a comedy. After the
comedy, the group had lower blood sugar levels than they did after the lecture.

Relaxation and sleep. The focus on the benefits of laughter really began with
Norman Cousin's memoir, Anatomy of an Illness. Cousins, who was diagnosed with
ankylosing spondylitis, a painful spine condition, found that a diet of comedies, like Marx
Brothers films and episodes of Candid Camera, helped him feel better. He said that ten
minutes of laughter allowed him two hours of pain-free sleep. (Sumber:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Laughter is our birthright, a natural part of life that is innate and inborn. Infants
begin smiling during the first weeks of life and laugh out loud within months of being
born. Even if you did not grow up in a household where laughter was a common sound,
you can learn to laugh at any stage of life.
Begin by setting aside special times to seek out humor and laughter, as you might with
working out, and build from there. Eventually, youll want to incorporate humor and
laughter into the fabric of your life, finding it naturally in everything you do.
Here are some ways to start:

Smile. Smiling is the beginning of laughter. Like laughter, its contagious.

Pioneers in laugh therapy, find its possible to laugh without even experiencing
a funny event. The same holds for smiling. When you look at someone or see
something even mildly pleasing, practice smiling.

Count your blessings. Literally make a list. The simple act of considering the
good things in your life will distance you from negative thoughts that are a barrier
to humor and laughter. When youre in a state of sadness, you have further to
travel to get to humor and laughter.

When you hear laughter, move toward it. Sometimes humor and laughter are
private, a shared joke among a small group, but usually not. More often, people
are very happy to share something funny because it gives them an opportunity to
laugh again and feed off the humor you find in it. When you hear laughter, seek it
out and ask, Whats funny?

Spend time with fun, playful people. These are people who laugh easilyboth
at themselves and at lifes absurditiesand who routinely find the humor in
everyday events. Their playful point of view and laughter are contagious.

Bring humor into conversations. Ask people, Whats the funniest thing that
happened to you today? This week? In your life?
