WILDROSE LEADS & NDP GAINS
April 9th, 2015. A new Mainstreet Technologies poll of 3,270 Albertans continues to find a volatile race with
the Wildrose Party maintaining support at 24%, and the Progressive Conservatives dropping to 21%. The
NDP have extended a commanding lead in Edmonton to 40% and have jumped province wide to 20%.The
poll carries an overall margin of error of +/- 1.78%, 19/20.
The first few days of this campaign are showing signs of a tremendously competitive race. Wildrose is
holding steady but the sudden surge of new support for the NDP in both Edmonton and across Alberta is
the real story, said Quito Maggi, President of Mainstreet Technologies. "PCs still maintain a slim lead in
Calgary over the Wildrose party where a large number of seats are up for grabs."
"The real bad news for the PCs in these numbers is that among those certain and likely to vote, the numbers
get worse, they trail the Wildrose Party 33%-27% with the NDP not far back at 25% among decided certain
and likely voters. The NDP could become a contender in this three way race with some growth in Calgary
and if they can motivate those who might and are unlikely to vote."
"It is clear from these numbers that there is a lot of movement occurring among the Alberta electorate.
Undecided voters increased by 4% this week, likely due to the anybody but PC effect. If this is any
indication of the coming weeks, we may see more drastic swings as the campaign unfolds. It appears we
are in for a wild ride."
Highlights:
- PCs and NDP are statistically tied (numbers are within the margin of error)
- NDP has increased support; +4% in Edmonton, +5% in Calgary, +5% in the Rest of Alberta
- Alberta Liberal and Alberta Party support slips to 9% and 2% respectively
- Undecided has increased 4%
