Power house Crane

The powerhouse crane will be of bridge type with a main hoist able to serve all normal
requirements for lifting and moving of heavy components during installation, maintenance work
and operation. The generator rotors are generally the heaviest components; also determining
the lifting height. An auxiliary hoist is provided below the main girder.

Additional auxiliary cranes are to be installed on the turbine floor and outdoors in front of the
main entrance gate of the machine hall.

Workshop equipment
The workshop should be sufficient to perform the following functions:

1. Dismantling and erection of all turbine parts as well as most other components related to
the power plant
2. Allow the repair and renewal of components which do not require special skills or
experience. This includes welding, drilling, turning, grinding, etc. and the repair of the power
plant trucks and vehicles
3. Repair and maintenance of parts of the heavy hydro/mechanical equipment brought to
the central workshop
4. Assist in dismantling and erection of hydro/mechanical equipment to be maintained at the
central workshop
5. Perform site repair and maintenance of parts not to be transported to the central
workshop.
6. Day to day maintenance such as testing, lubrication as well as minor repair work of the
equipment will not be done by the central workshop but by the mechanics at site.

The store will be used for larger spare parts, raw materials and consumables.

Oil Handling equipment

No centralized oil handling equipment is foreseen. Spare oil as well as used oil can be stored in
ordinary oil drums as well as transport containers. The equipment delivered should include
equipment for taking oil samples, manual and electric transfer pumps with pipes and hoses
and filters, as well as mobile high grade filtering units with oil separator. The latter can be
coupled in parallel with all oil systems to perform continuous cleaning during ordinary operation.

Fire Fighting equipment

This should include main piping for fire hoses, water spray nozzles etc. as required in the power
station. A CO 2 fire extinguishing system has been considered (which incidentally is usually
adopted by WAPDA) but it is not recommend due to the danger of suffocation of plant operators
and the fact that it is not necessary for a modern plant.

For example, there are no flammable materials in a modern state-of-the-art generator and thus
there should be no need for a CO
2 fire-fighting system for the generator.

Electrical equipment used in power houses

The electrical equipment consists mainly of:

1. Horizontal shaft generators connected via 11 kV cables to a 11 kV switch board

2. Auxiliary supply for all power needs of the powerhouse and intake area
3. Control and protection devices for all functions of the plant including the 132 kV switch
yard.

The Usual site conditions are as follows:
