Lesson plan is a guideline for a teacher where it guides throughout the lesson by

considering the time of lesson, the teachers teaching material, pupils needs and their
interests as well. The lesson plan that I have done for this assignment is based on listening
and speaking skills.
During my set induction I decided to use picture cards and ask the pupils to guess
out the pictures. This activity could grab the attention of the pupils as well as give them some
idea about what they are going to learn. This activity emphasizes the language experience
approach where pupils would guess out the picture cards using their prior knowledge or
experience that they had before.
In my presentation stage, I will show them a song lyric about festivals using laptop.
This activity could captivate the mind and the interest of the pupils as they will be so excited
to sing songs. According to Purcell (1992), students can become bored by repeatedly
listening to a narration or dialog as they attempt to understand the meaning of new words or
phrases in context. In contrast, listening to a song over and over again can seem less
monotonous because of the rhythm and melody. Some songs which contain common
expressions can be used as good listening activities. In this case, the use of song in the
presentation stage could help me as a teacher to present my teaching process in an
interesting manner and engage the pupils in fun learning activities.
Furthermore, in the practice stage I will divide the pupils into mixed ability group and
ask them to discuss about the festivals which assigned to them.

Through this activity,

everyone in the group no matter weak students or excellent students, they tend to speak out
their opinion and their prior knowledge about the festival. Both mixed ability pupils tend to
interact with each other and this can give a self confidence to the weak students as they also
contribute something for their group and present their points in front of the class. This activity
automatically brings the cooperation value among the group members. Pupils will be able to
participate in conversations through this activity.

Besides that, during the production stage, the group member will be remained in the
same group and each group will be assigned to design an invitation card inviting other
classmates to their home during the festivals. This activity uses the top down approach as
pupils start to design an invitation card using their background knowledge or textual schema
which is awareness of the kinds of information used in a given situation. As a teacher, I will
guide them on how to design an invitation card using the proper way and finally I would
teach them the correct way of accepting and declining an invitation. This activity will be very
meaningful as in KSSR syllable communicating with peers and adults confidently and
appropriately in formal and informal situations is one of the principles of teaching listening
and speaking skills.
As a conclusion, I do think that the activities that I designed in each stage would help
the year 4 pupils to understand better the content of the lesson in fun and interesting manner
and as well as help them to develop their listening and speaking skills.
