I.S. 3217 CHECKLISTS AND CERTIFICATES USER INSTRUCTIONS


1.

The purpose of this certificate is to convey compliance to I.S. 3217. It is not intended to be used as a defect or snag list and
therefore should not be issued with deviations to the standard. Variations to the standard, if any are to be detailed on the
downloaded justification report and attached to the certificate.

Deviations must be dealt with separately before certificates are issued.

These certificates are to be used for both commissioning and periodic inspection.

Insert the certificate separator after the green copy.
Fill out the top (premises owner) copy.
Include any necessary reference to a Justification Report (downloadable from approved body website).
If there are no variations send the white and yellow copies to their respective places.

NOTE 1 The periodic checklist and the certificates refer to a 2011 version of the standard. This is to accommodate the next edition
of the standard under development at the time of printing these certificates.
NOTE 2 I.S. 3217:2008, clause B.5 refers to restrictions on those carrying out, design, installation and commissioning. The
development of the Building Emergency Safety System (BESS) scheme envisages a different approach by defining certain
types of installations that can be designed, installed and commissioned by the one operator.

1. Under test conditions, minimum required illumination is achieved.


Note: This should be checked by taking lux readings as recommended in Annex A,
however if this is not possible, a visual inspection should be performed and confirm that
minimum recommended design spacing have not been exceeded.
2. High risk areas are illuminated to 10% of normal lighting illumination.
3. Uniformity requirements are met.
4. Twin spots do not exceed glare limits.
