This building, renowned for its historic and architecture value, nowadays houses the Head Office of the
Museum Center. It was designed by Hungarian architect Andrs Klnay and inaugurated in 1927. Until
1970, it served as Cervecera Munich (Munich Pub), a traditional meeting place on the river side. Then, it
housed the Telecommunications Museum, and in 2002 was returned to the City Government.
Different art exhibitions, guided tours, shows, workshops and other activities are held here with the aim of
spreading the cultural heritage of the city. The building also houses the headquarters of Buenos Aires

Fuente de la Nereidas
Av. Dr. T. Achaval Rodriguez 1600, Puerto Madero
This fountain, a work by Argentinian sculptress Lola Mora, was inaugurated in 1903.
It was originally conceived for Plaza de Mayo, but it was considered indecorous, and for that reason was
erected on the corner of present-day Leandro N. Alem Avenue and Teniente General Juan Domingo Pern
Street. Later on, it was moved to its current location.
Made of Carrara marble, the fountain consists of a huge valve, from which three Tritons and their horses
emerge. In the center, two Nereids are holding a smaller valve from which Venus comes out in triumph.
Dolores "Lola" Mora (1867-1936) was one of the first sculptresses both in Argentina and South America, as
well as a highly gifted and controversial artist for the time.
Puente de la Mujer
Juana Manuela Gorriti - Dique 3, Puerto Madero
This pedestrian bridge, a work by Catalan architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, was inaugurated in
December 2001.
It consists of a 160-meter long wood-covered structure, and boasts a leaning 39-meter obelisk which,
supported by wire suspenders, confer the bridge the shape of a grand harp. In the center, a pivoting stretch
allows ships to pass through. Built
entirely in Spain, the different sections were shipped and assembled here. The work was donated to the
city by Madero Este Company.

Reserva Ecolgica
Av. Dr. Tristn Achval Rodrguez 1550, Puerto Madero
The Municipal Riverside Resort was opened in December 1918 on the banks of the Ro de la Plata. Soon
cafs and restaurants offering dinner shows were settled in the area, which became one of the main
promenades of the city.
With time, this public recreational space began to lose popularity, and in 1978 several buildings in the area,
owned by the Municipality, were demolished. An urban development plan was carried out with the aim of
widening the city towards the River. To that end, about 350 hectares on the banks of the river were refilled.
However, this project was finally called off, and the lands gained from the River were abandoned. During
the next decade, numerous species of plants, trees and animals began to settle in the area, which became
a rich natural reserve for the local flora and fauna. In 1986, the Deliberative Council of the City of Buenos
Aires decided to turn these lands into a preserved area, open to visitors, thus creating the Environmental
Reserve.

The regulations for the retrieval of Puerto Madero comprise public and private spaces that surround the
buildings, open-air areas, sidewalks and roads, the four dams and all original facilities related to the port
activity.
Faades maintain the early materials, shape and dimensions. Remodeling may take place as long as it
remains faithful to the original design. Thus, complying with these regulations, large public spaces for
recreation and leisure purposes have
been added.

A further project will extend the route northwards to Retiro Station, and southwards to Constitucin Station.
The classic electric tramway was opened in the city in 1897. In the 1920s, the network reached its peak,
with more than 800 kilometers of tracks. However, in 1963, tramways stopped running in Buenos Aires.
Silos
Dique 3, Puerto Madero

These silos in the east section of Dam 3 were opened in 1903, together with the warehouses and mills that
provided the first port facilities in Buenos Aires. With their concrete telescopic pipes, the silos organized the
loading and unloading of products. Inside, grains were stored for further loading. They were built by Bunge
y Born Firm and had a grinding capacity of 1200 tons a day. Nowadays, they bear witness to an poque of
economic opulence, which made this country known as "the worlds granary".

In past times, when this area concentrated the citys port activity, the ships unloaded their products mainly
grains and cereals on the west margin of the dams, while loading took place on the opposite margin,
where warehouses had been built to that end.
The moveable bridges allowed ships and vessels to pass from one dam to another, and were also destined
for pedestrians and cars.
In present days, the dams are flanked by a variety of restaurants and cafs, turning this area into an
exclusive gastronomic center.

All constructions flanking the four dams in Puerto Madero present similar features: their structure is made of
reinforced concrete; they have stone foundations and brick walls, and cast iron doors and windows. On
some of the buildings, the old cranes can still be seen fixed to the walls.
This 690-meter dam is the longest one. The piers are made of concrete and granite, and stone stairs
placed every 30 meters reach the water.

This dock, with irregular quadrilateral shape, measures 1,100 by 1,400 meters. It was inaugurated in 1897,
in the midst of complaints against the ineffectiveness of the port system planned by Madero. In its origins,
there were warehouses on the
southern, eastern and western piers; while the northern one was meant for passengers.
At present there remains only one warehouse, on the southern pier, owned by Buquebs Travel Company.
On the opposite end stands the ancient building of the Argentine Yacht Club.
