Av. Dr. T. Achaval Rodriguez 1600, Puerto Madero
This fountain, a work by Argentinian sculptress Lola Mora, was inaugurated in 1903.

erected on the corner of present-day Leandro N. Alem Avenue and Teniente General Juan Domingo Pern
Street. Later on, it was moved to its current location.
Made of Carrara marble, the fountain consists of a huge valve, from which three Tritons and their horses
emerge. In the center, two Nereids are holding a smaller valve from which Venus comes out in triumph.
Dolores "Lola" Mora (1867-1936) was one of the first sculptresses both in Argentina and South America, as

the first three classes of the
Naval Academy created by Sarmiento were trained in it.
The corvette was part of the expedition led by Commodore Py, which reasserted this countrys sovereignty
in Patagonia. Its world known heroic feat took place in 1903: commanded by Captain Julin Irzar, and
weathering terrible storms, the corvette managed to rescue the crew of the "Antarctic", a Swedish vessel
led by Otto Nordenskjld that had wrecked while crossing the icy waters of the South Pole. It also

engineer David Simpson. Its aim was to compensate for the lack of direct communication between the port
area and the ancient railway network.
Later on this railway was no longer used for freight purposes. After many years of neglect, works were
carried out in 1997 to provide passenger transportation services, joining the town of Castelar in the West
of Buenos Aires Province with Puerto
Madero, completing a journey of 26 km with two intermediate stops.
Each train is made up of two cars, with a capacity of 116 passengers, and comfort features such as heat

Reserva Ecolgica
Av. Dr. Tristn Achval Rodrguez 1550, Puerto Madero
The Municipal Riverside Resort was opened in December 1918 on the banks of the Ro de la Plata. Soon
cafs and restaurants offering dinner shows were settled in the area, which became one of the main
promenades of the city.
With time, this public recreational space began to lose popularity, and in 1978 several buildings in the area,
owned by the Municipality, were demolished. An urban development plan was carried out with the aim of
widening the city towards the River. To that end, about 350 hectares on the banks of the river were refilled.
However, this project was finally called off, and the lands gained from the River were abandoned. During
the next decade, numerous species of plants, trees and animals began to settle in the area, which became
a rich natural reserve for the local flora and fauna. In 1986, the Deliberative Council of the City of Buenos
Aires decided to turn these lands into a preserved area, open to visitors, thus creating the Environmental
Reserve.

The regulations for the retrieval of Puerto Madero comprise public and private spaces that surround the
buildings, open-air areas, sidewalks and roads, the four dams and all original facilities related to the port
activity.
Faades maintain the early materials, shape and dimensions. Remodeling may take place as long as it
remains faithful to the original design. Thus, complying with these regulations, large public spaces for
recreation and leisure purposes have
been added.

for pedestrians and cars.
