1. Check .net >net1.1 had to install (1.1 and hotfix) and install manually from cd
(1.1 and SP) Jason thought he would be able to do this on the 10 participant
pcs ahead of time. Confirm if done already. If not install dotnetfx.exe first,
then NDP1 service pack. After Service pack is installed you will be asked to
restart pc.
2. Check Folder Structure, emailed suggested folder structure to Gordon and
Jason. Have they created this already?
3. My Documents is relocated to H drive but it is okay since no one in the firm is
mobile.
4. Install software (we are using 4.3 B362.1). Rick and Jason to make sure it
worked with Hummingbird DM tested this version.
- Suggestion Only Select Add SpeechExec icon to the desktop De-select the
rest.

5. Software, use New User Wizard,
Author
- Specify user name if Windows User name is too vague (this helps to
find out who worked on a dictation last
- Modify Finished Dictations folder (Change path)
- ***Select Worktype, leave blank if Author will not be using worktypes
and/or subfolders.
***DPM Configuration I usually skip here as we need to go into the General
Settings anyway****
Note when you click Finish you will be prompted with a message The old
folder might contain dictations. Do you want to move them to the new
folder? Click No as we have no dictations yet.

Transcription
- Specify user name if Windows User name is too vague (this helps to
find out who worked on a dictation last)
- Add New Pending folder (give name corresponding to Author) and set
path to network folder
- Notification (change reminder 1 minute is too often, 1- to 30 minutes).
There is a welcome to SpeechExec dictation so you will get a
notification right away)
6. Software Settings: Suggested Settings:
Author First Step Are we going to create subfolders. If yes change
Show all dictations to yes If we are not using Subfolders make sure to
deselect under General Settings> Rules>Subfolder Creation
Dictation:
- Classic or DSS Pro mode?
- Dictation Finished (Only applies if authors will be recording with software
dpm attached to pc)
Rules:
- Subfolder creation Create a subfolder in the Finished dictations folder
based on property values. (i.e. worktype)
Worklist
- Startup, do you want to run SpeechExec automatically after system startup.
If so do you want to start in hidden mode and do you need to delay by a few
seconds for mapped drives to become available.
- Purge, only applies if using author notification and author has selected to
move dictations from the sent items folder to the archive folder.

Non-Windows Network refresh is set to 3 seconds change to (60) if this
applies
Display tool tip increase time from 5 seconds to 15)
- Visibility is fine as is with the SpeechExec Pro Dictate software
DPM /DT Configuration
(connect dpm to pc). Note, first time you connect it after it is recognized as a
new device you must unplug it and plug in again. You do not need to reboot
pc, the dialog box stating this may be hidden.
DPM Settings (make sure device is connected and recognized first)/Start
- General Tab File name (Default Keyword 1, which is Author name or
prefix) Device beep, Record Notification beep
- Keyword Definition Add Author name

Download Settings Default File Type is All Files (second most popular
EOL Files only) Also defaulted to delete files automatically from DPM
after download is finished.
Button Configuration By Default Additional Function Key is
Insert/Overwrite This can be disabled or changed here.
Protection, if you select this the Author will be limited/prevented from
changing settings on device (this can be good and bad)
Transfer settings to Device

Transcription First Step * If authors are creating subfolders than you

would need to go into properties of the new pending folder you created
and change Show all dictations to yes)
Dictation:
- Classic or DSS Pro mode?
- Dictation Properties Display dictation properties when suspending a
transcription (good idea if assistant want to type in a comment as to why it
was suspended)
- Start/Suspend Transcription Deselect When you suspend a transcription,
move that to the Suspended folder (this way it will stay in the folder on the
network, someone else can retrieve it)
- Finish Transcription (by default this is set to Move Dictation to Archive
folder We have suggested individual Archive folders for each assistant
Worklist
- Startup, do you want to run SpeechExec automatically after system startup.
If so do you want to start in hidden mode and do you need to delay by a few
seconds for mapped drives to become available.
- Purge Archive purge automatically, or manually how many days?
- N otification, set to close automatically be default every 15 seconds. Does
assistant want this and is 15 seconds okay?
