Guidelines for Submission
Deadline for Submissions: Monday, May 4th, 2015 (by midnight)
Language: English

Project Scope: Deeping Awareness & Global Understanding


Defining the word empathy through storytelling
Registration
School children, age of 15 and under, who wish to participate, must register with their coordinating teacher, at least
two-weeks before deadline for submissions which is: May 4th, 2015.

Topic
The topic: to define what the word empathy means to them, the writer, either personally or in context to a
worldview. The students definition must be told through a story. The story can be fiction made up in the writers
imagination, or the re-telling of a story experienced or heard from another.

Format
The story is to be one-page typed (500 words or less) in electronic PDF format, each entry must have the
following:
1.) Heading: the title of the story, students name, school and coordinating teachers name & phone number.
2.) Introduction: statement or paragraph, either as part of the story or explaining why the student entered the
competition.
3.) Body: telling the story, with a conclusion or ending either as part of the story, or a separate statement or
paragraph. No entries will be returned.

Invitations to participate in radio program


All entries will be considered for the Final Five invitations to participate in radio program about this topic. Each
entry must have a simple signed release form, by parent or guardian and submitted at time of story
submission granting permission to participate in radio program. The participants for the radio program will be
selected on creativity, imagination employed, and originality and of course: the art of storytelling. Radio
participants will speak about their inspiration for writing their story and will read part of their story on-air. All
interviews will be recorded. The entire story of each of the Final Five will be posted on The Red Tree Website.
*In addition, Mr. Ben Lessor, Holocaust survivor from Dachau Concentration Camp and founder of the Zachor
Foundation will give one copy each of his book, Living a Life That Matters, to each of the Final Five who
participate in the Munich Radio Show, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Dachau.

Invitations to participate in radio show will be sent by May 15 to coordinating teachers. Recorded interviews are
via fixed-line telephones, and will be conducted the end of May 2015.

Our exhibition creates a space of communication,


reflexion and creativity, allowing visitors to step out of
their daily lives into someone elses world they could
haveotherwiseneverknown.
