    Ourmembershipdecidednottopassthisresolutioncallingforacampaignwithasinglefocus,AmnestyUKpressofficerNeil
    DurkintoldtheJewishChronicle.Butitquicklyemergedthattheorganizationhaddevotedanextensivereportexclusivelytoanti
    MuslimdiscriminationinBritainasrecentlyas2012,raisingthequestionofwhythesamecouldnotbedoneforJews.
    Amnestysmovehasdrawncriticismfromprogressivestoconservatives,includingtheresolutionsoriginator,AndrewThorpeApps,
    whosubmittedthemotionoutofconcernoverantiSemiticincidentsintheU.K.,whichhavereachedarecordhigh.ThorpeApps
    calledforAmnestytobacktherecommendationsoftheBritishgovernmentsownAllPartyParliamentaryGroupAgainstAnti
    Semitism,whichinFebruaryreleasedareportdocumentinganalarmingriseinantiJewishincidents,andoutlinedstepstocombat
    them.
    ImnotJewishmyself,hetoldtheJewishChronicle,butIvebeenappalledbywhatIveseeninthepressfacingtheJewish
    community,andanorganizationlikeAmnestyshouldreallyaddtheirvoicetothatastheydowithotherhumanrightsissues.
    ThisisnotthefirsttimeAmnestyhascourtedcontroversywhenitcomestoJews,suggesting,perhaps,anambivalencetowardsthe
    issue.LastNovember,AmnestydeclinedtopenalizeatopemployeeUKcampaignsmanagerKristyanBenedictwholikenedIsrael
    toISISonTwitter,employingthehashtag#JSIL(JewishStateintheLevant),afavoriteofantiSemiticconspiracytheorists.Atthe
    time,Amnestytoldthemediathattheincidentwasbeinginvestigatedinternally,yettherehavebeennoconsequencesofthat
    investigationtodate.
    Amnestywasfoundedin1961byaJew,PeterBenenson.Asayouth,oneofhisearliesthumanrightscampaignstoutedby
    Amnestysownbrancheswascollecting4,000fromfriendsandfamilytobringtwoyoungJewstoBritainfromNaziGermanyin
    1939.
