DEDICATION
My poetry in this book would personally be dedicated to a special person in
my life, my father Shirish Kulkarni. When the tides of life were crashing on
me, when the flames of fire buried me deeper, as well as when the blooming
flower left on me its fragrance and the rainbow casted its beauty over me
he was by my side, sometimes supporting; but sometimes just there
waiting for me to find the solution to my problem, not pushing nor urging;
just being there. No fool can deceive my love for him nor his intense care for
me. He was the one who showed me the ray of light, as well as alarmed me
when the paths were dark. Thank you, without you; nothing would ever be
possible..

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my being, my life to
preserve the moments in the form of the art of poetry, my surroundings for
their eagerness of bidding me the situations I attain to, as well as .
I would like to thank my mother, Sumedha, who has always kept an eye
on me no matter how much the modernized world pulled me into the
magnetism of exploring. She has encouraged me in every step I took and has
been the backbone of the entire soul of mine. She never ever gave up when
it was me who chose the wrong road sometimes. Yes, I agree; the channel to
reach that white bright circle in the pitch black portrait was my mother. The
poem She is dedicated to her. Thank you mother, without you I wouldnt
have been able to step a foot on this palladium.
My dear Soham, my young brother who still portrays my differences in
the right manner; you have been the lace to the shoe. Without your smile and
never ending inventions, I wouldnt have reached this door. Thank you.
I wish to thank all of my friends and some of them are really very special
to me they have been with me all of my high and low times and have been
bearing with me through out. They have had their shoulders for me to lean
on at every hitch and crook and their hands to hold me when I for instance
was about to fall. My special friend, as I call her always; Reema, I dedicate the
poem Sunshine to you. And my best friend forever and ever and ever
as we both call it, the poem Destiny is dedicated to you.
All of my family members my grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins
have been very supportive and their encouragement has helped me
tremendously to shape up this book indeed. I have dedicated the poem
Remembering the forgotten days to my family. Thanks a bunch.
I have a lot of mentors and well-wishers. I owe you all. You all have been
very kind, considerate and always supportive for the positives and negatives
of the creativity in me Thanks for bearing with me.
I would specially like to thank all of my teachers in my school, whose
guidance and encouragement has helped me immensely to be able to create
this book in this form. Thank You !

Foreword
Some relations are blessings from the heaven and are always searching the
fathoms of unknown one should not make petty attempts to qualify them
or define them in this world. The relation between Surabhi and her poetry is
also one of the above types .. They both share a very different space which is
as clean and accommodating as the sky, as reflecting and very realistic .
Surabhis every poem is a reflection of the freewheeling and beautiful picture
of Surabhis elegant conception of her thoughts, impressions, reactions and
emotions. These poems are as real as alive and in front of us we are able to
see them, experience them and they are able to talk to us!
A girl in tenth standard has honestly created this bouquet of poetry by being
only herself and reflecting own self. The poems like The Drought, She
needs a little love, At last .. are playing a role of mirror reflecting the
genuinely true emotions and state of mind this is the actual quality and
recognition for Surabhis poetry !!
My heartfelt wishes to Surabhis clear and rising horizons
Now it is need that all of us fine our own shapes in Surabhis transcendent
horizons.

Preface
MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE.
The mosaic hearts, the ones with different colors, shapes as well as phases;
the ones which accept all the surrounding colored- black, white or even multicolored hearts, the ones which always adjust and bring up the essence of life;
hand in hand with all the good and bad people; are the hearts which have a
place on these lands always and forever; thus, never to fade.
The irony of this term called life is that it isnt a meadow- plain and
smooth as it seems like, it is a road having- ups, downs, curves, diversions,
wrong directions but nowhere does it have a stop.
Life is continuous, consistent and it varies as per need- bringing joy, grief
and at times even confusion. This life, full of experiences- bad or good is
being faced by all of us; may the reader be a teenager like me or even a well
settled bachelor or a married successful identity. The highs and lows never
stop no matter how finishing or happy-ever-after an experience would
make you feel. Bringing about my age, living like a teenager; with friends and
bullies, with understanding but strict teachers, with caring but expecting
parents, with the nuisance of peer pressure adding up to the academic
pressure, extracurricular activities burdening us, with the new modern world
falling tight on us, and then the exploration of a new sided world where things
seem attractive but hence forth lead to addiction, also with a school life where
sometimes one feels like asking the world I wont choose this career line in
my life, then why study on it?; yes, life is at times difficult and all my friendsteenagers would feel that urge while reading the poetry. But it passes.
Everyone knows. This phase passes, slowly but cant guarantee if it would
pass steadily. And I presume the poems I write, would deviate one to this
conclusion, that yes; there is a solution- a solution which could be found fast;
or a solution which could be dwelling passed one but is unseen; but yes, there
is always a solution- an answer.
My poetry in this book would personally be dedicated to a special person
in my life, my father. When the tides of life were crashing on me, when the
flames of fire buried me deeper, as well as when the blooming flower left on
me its fragrance and the rainbow casted its beauty over me he was by my
side, sometimes supporting; but sometimes just there waiting for me to
find the solution to my problem, not pushing nor urging; just being there.

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

No fool can deceive my love for him nor his intense care for me. He was
the one who showed me the ray of light, as well as alarmed me when the
paths were dark. Thank you, without you; nothing would ever be possible.
The poetry in the book is my inner voice. My friends say that in my poetry
I am different and the way I am on face, there is complete variation. Just for
the record, changing for writing poetry wont be my thing. Changing for
making someone feel comfortable on face would be my thing. So yes, poetry;
there you find the real me, my true self.
A poet, he is a dreamer. Imagination. His every day job. Creation. Not a
talent, but a medium of breathing. Poems are written. Poetry comes on own
accord. Poem writers write poems as an opportunity. Poets write poetry, their
breathing aid. There is a difference, which yes; I would like all of you to
understand before going forward. I write poetry. And it isnt my talent or my
hobby. It is a medium. The medium through I myself support myself, I pass
the phases astoundingly, I express, I feel, I breathe. Poetry does not have the
change that every single thing in the world has, is what I opine. Yes, the
grammar, the strength of the words and the handwriting would surely change
through ages of the poet. But not the feelings, the emotions, the way of
building and clubbing the words into a phenomenon- poetry. It remains. And
that is what is specifically beautiful. The poetry is based on the poets
maturity. And for me, age does not define maturity. Thus, I agree. I get into
the shoes of a person elderly, young or even just an abstract object and
then; write poetry from the other side. A poet does not have to go through
something and then write poetry, it does not always have to happen to him
for him to jot it down. The ability of getting into that particulars situation
and then pondering upon the poetic effects is the creation- the poetry. In this
book of poetry, not all of it has been faced by me; for example the depression,
the true love, the situations of imaginary characters and off course- the fiction
in the poetry; it wasnt and isnt faced by me. Its my imagination, my creation
which dwells on the paper. The ability to sit in a room of four walls and to
write poetry based on the mesmerizing beauty of the water falls on a rainy
day in a dense, green forest; is what I call- the ability to write poetry.
I find it clearly not a talent which the world states it is. I opine, poetry is
magic. And I feel, I am aiming to be the magician.
- Surabhi Kulkarni.

Bouquet 1 : My relations & Friends

1.1.

Daddys little Girl

To my dear father

Those bruises were overpowering,

The blood was never stopping.
My tricycle, it was destroyed,
And I was totally horrified.
Suddenly, everything was hurting,
My power, it was deserting.
But then came a warm hand,
It made me stand, as soft as sand.
It was comforting and I felt better,
My pains and aches got blur.
I was safe in my daddys arms,
Protecting me from the worlds harms.
He taught me how to cure oneself,
Even if there isnt any help.
That lovely experience still isnt forgotten,
I wished again, for that to happen.
To be proud, and to become proud,
Theres a difference- he taught me.
Times pass, days fade, I grow up, miss past days, cry aloud.
Times fade days for me to grow up to become proud.
Times change me, lessons are learnt, I fall, I get up, past is a hurl,
Time goes by but lessons that Ive learnt change me as I fall but get up.
But I always am, my daddys little girl

1.2.

She
To my dearest mother

She keeps on telling me what to do and what not

She keeps on scolding me a lot
4

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

She keeps on pointing out my slightest mistake

She keeps on being unsatisfied on whatever I make
She is the one who sees a black dot in every white plain I state
She is the one who always gives anything I do a lower rate
She is the one who always compares my present and my past
She is the one on whom every expression I cast
But she is the one whom I love
But then if she keeps on annoying me so much
Why do I love her
Because
She keeps on telling me what to do and what not
Cause she knows the right and the wrong
She keeps on scolding me a lot
Cause she knows the circumstances actions cause
She keeps on pointing out my slightest mistake
Cause she knows I'll fall hard if I take a step ahead
She keeps on being unsatisfied on whatever I make
Cause she knows how beautiful it really would be if I get it just right
She is the one who sees a black dot in every white plain I state
Cause she knows how that one hunch will drape down the plain
She is the one who gives anything I make a lower rate
Cause she wants me to improve it and get the worlds higher rate
She is the one who compares my present and my past
Cause she wants my future to be out of reach of them
She is the one on whom every expression I cast
Cause she is the one who no matter what I do will stand beside me
always and forever till the last.

1.3.

Life
To my dearest grandmother

I knew that life was bringing this

Sometimes grief and sometimes bliss
But even though this was known
The future was not really shown
Things went right in their own way
5

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

There was nothing left to say

Cause the present wanted to decorate itself
And past wanted others to know its self
The future was a dream to be sought
Every moment was a planned thought
How was it? When was it?
All the questions one by one lit
The answers were right in front
But it was life-- everything had to be hunt
Help always came for sure
To those who were strong and pure
When someone now, asks me how's my life
All I say....
Its just like life

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

Surabhi has demonstrated a very good fluency over language and

thoughts in the poems in this book. She is sensitive to the world around
her and is able to bring out her emotions in very expressive and authentic
manner. She shows a great confidence to be bold and courageous in
dealing with the situations around her and is imaginative for bringing those
experiences to reality. I strongly recommend Surabhi to choose an
appropriate career option and poetry writing would be very natural choice
for her. I extend my best wishes to Surabhi for her endeavor as a budding

Dear Surabhi, the first word comes beautiful. A rigorous work!

Congratulations! Congrats to Aai (Sumedha) and Baba (Shirish) to have a
sensitive and expressive daughter like you. At the same time, I hope that
the creator should remain aloof and involved in her/his creation to
become more successful. I will have to go through each poem many
times to get the poets meaning in that creation. Every poem is wonderful
expression. I will prefer to go reading a very few at a time to understand
and experience each of them. Thanks for preferring me to share my views
on this beautiful bouquet of poems.

Dr. Vaishali Deshmukh

Consulting Pediatrician

Teenage is mesmerizing, exciting and full of promise! Yet, at times,

it is painful, tedious and hopeless! The world is changing and with it are
the challenges of teenage. The fast paced world has become more
demanding, more and more ruthless. One needs an inner strength to cross
these troubled waters. Otherwise, this fairy-tale time can turn into a
nightmare. Many teenagers find it difficult to give vent to their feelings and
thoughts; and consequently suffer. Surabhi has found a wonderful
medium to express her thoughts. She has captured the angst of teenage in
her poems. And although she very modestly declares that it is not her
talent, her poems say otherwise! She has managed to channelize her
creativity beautifully and effectively. Her poems are not just sentimental
outbursts but reflect a balance of the right and the left brain. I am sure
this ability to express will be a boon to Surabhi in all walks of life.

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

Mrs. Jayashri Narayan

Surabhis English Teacher, Abhinava Vidyalaya English Medium High
School

Surabhi has been my student since last 2 years and has always been
an enigma to most of her teachers.
This work Mosaic hearts never fade reveals the reason for the enigmatic
personality. The poetess in Surabhi seems to be loving and rebellious at
the same time. She seems to want the world to know her as she wants to
be known. The poems are works of a mature teenager and could be the
most mindset reflection of so many others, who may not be so good with
words.
A good way of opening up and clearing of cobwebs that clutter the mind
Surabhi has correctly used the medium of poetry.
To know oneself well, one has to express. For others, to know you you
have to express well.
This sojourn of your-self from yourself be guided by the almighty.
God bless. With best wishes to Surabhi.

ABOUT THE POETESS

Everyone goes through the ups and downs in the life and has different
experiences during the highs and lows. There are various types of experiences
personal, private, touching, heartening, ecstatic, bubbling, raving,
enchanting they touch our mind, get recorded and help us shape our
personality accordingly. Some take us to the heights from which we can look
at the world from above some put us down so severely, that we look up to
the world to notice us. These experiences relate to our lives, dreams, near and
dear personalities and so on. The narration of these experiences is an
individual perspective - very personal and not to be debated and commented
upon. I believe, that as we grow and get these facets of experience, we build
our own personal views and sense of maturity in ourselves. After reading
these experience, one could relate to it, could start thinking about a new
dimension, can get completely puzzled or something get a very soothing
effect this is a matter of association.
In this book, Surabhi, my daughter is presenting poems, which are
representing collection of some of her own experiences and some of her own
imagination of experiences in various roles that she is playing or imagining.
The roles could be as a daughter, school going kid, sister, friend, as a loving
person, someone having rivalry about others, someone starting hating others,
someone hurt deeply, someone trying to get others interested, someone
trying to win someone elses respects, someone liking the other As a
teenager, it was easy to write some poems which constitute Surabhis basic
feelings, but have been difficult to write some which are about love towards
others conventionally called as romantic poems. This is her sincere
attempt to express her own feelings and sound them formally to the world.
Aim is to share these poems, have them getting known and associated
with sensitive and appreciating minds. I strongly believe that these feelings
are contagious they will definitely take you down the thought journey and
you start getting the same, similar or your own experiences associated with
the feeling in the poems. I believe that it would be the success criteria for the
effectiveness of the Surabhis blooming poetry.

13

MOSAIC HEARTS NEVER FADE

In my view, its just the start and a long way to go Surabhi will keep
on getting indulged in these experiences, shades of feelings and keep on
expressing them... She will definitely reach out to you with more bouquets of
poems and will be happy to touch your minds.
Thanks for reading this book please feel free to share your views on
