To establish & maintain a procedure for carrying out all activities related to
roofing, roof insulation & water proofing of roof.

This procedure shall be applicable to profile sheeting and concrete deck roofs
undertaken by the Company.

5.0

PROCEDURE

5.1

Responsibility

5.1.1

The responsibility for carrying out this Method Statement shall be that of
the Project Engineer, unless otherwise specifically mentioned in this
procedure. The Quality Engineer/ Project Engineer shall be responsible for
inspection & testing.

5.2

Roofing

5.2.1

Handling
While handling single sheets, special care shall be taken so that damage to
edges, corners or painted surfaces is avoided.

5.2.2

Fixtures
Profiled Aluminium sheet shall be fixed with screws of appropriate quality
(stainless self tapping) and insulated from purlin with PVC barrier tape, if
specified.

5.2.3

Installation

5.3

Inspect the structure & purlin installation and ensure that it is safe & ready
for installation of sheets.
Starting sheets shall be fixed in squareness.
Sheet cutting shall be done by power saw, or steel hack saw.
Specified fasteners & fastening method shall be used.
Sheet fixer shall ensure that fixings are not over tightened or cause to the
sheets or purlins.
Sheets shall be laid away from the edge of building and projecting out.
Fasteners shall be sealed with mastic or washers.
Sheet shall not be left partially fastened for any period of time particularly
in high winds.
Cavity between sheets & flashing (or eaves purlin) shall be filled with filler
blocks or as specified.
Sheets embedded in concrete & steel shall be painted with red oxide or
coats bituminous paint. Timber in contact of sheets shall be painted with
aluminium paint (two coats), if contractually required.

Insulation
Ensure the following:

Method for installation of thermal insulation shall be laid as per the


manufacturer's instructions. Lap at joints shall be 150 mm whether plain,

fiber or aluminium faced insulation. Thickness of insulation shall be, as


specified.
While laying composite sheets, appropriate fasteners shall be used.
Traverse joints shall be supported on purlins.

5.4

Concrete Deck, Screeds & Angle Fillets

5.4.1

Concreting for decks & slabs shall be done according to the Method Statement
for Concreting - Site Batched CIVIL MST- 007/ REV. 0 and screeds shall be
laid as mentioned in the Method Statement for InSitu Flooring CIVIL MST- 018/
REV. 0.

5.4.2

Ensure screeds for decking shall be laid in 1:2:4 concrete panels not
exceeding 8 square meter or as specified. Stop ends shall be vertical and
aligned with construction joints in decking screeds. Angle fillets shall not pass
over roof expansion joints. These shall be filled with fiber filler board of
specified width.

5.4.3

Curing shall be done for a minimum of 3 days by covering entire surface with
damp hessian, damp sand or polythene.

5.5

Water Proofing

5.5.1

Aluminium Flashing

5.5.2

Expanded Polystyrene-Loose Laid Insulation

5.5.3

Flashing shall not be bedded in corrosive mortar (lime). They shall be


covered with bitumen paint where bedded.
Flashing shall be checked on arrival for size, make & quantity.
Chases shall be cut with mechanical chasers / pre-formed in concrete /
plaster.

Ensure joints are staggered & butted together.


Ensure the protection of polystyrene sheets from lifting by wind (before
protective tiles are laid).
Care shall be taken that these panels are not damaged by foot traffic or
other construction activity.

Sprayed Polyurethane Foam


Sprayed foam is not damaged by foot traffic, tools or other construction
activity.

5.5.4

Protection

Reflective solar shield (sheets or paint) shall be laid as per manufacturer's


instructions.
Precast concrete slabs of light colour shall be laid, as contractually agreed.

Water proofing & insulation layers shall be protected during laying of tiles.
Ballast of light colour and 20 mm dia washed wadi gravel shall be laid to
specified thickness (if applicable).
