Its not who you are that holds you back, its who you think you are.

Great
dancers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their
passion. said by Martha Graham. I strongly agree with this quote, and I feel it
relates to not only performers but society as a whole. Dance and Musical Theatre
has always been my focus from a very young age. It is constantly inspiring me;
helping me to progress into the vibrant and positive person I am today. I am honest,
exceptionally hard working, creative and determined to succeed. My ambition is to
achieve professional standards in my performance technique, something I am
currently working extremely hard at.
I am currently a student at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts training for a
Foundation Certificate in Performing Arts (Dance). Our intensive timetable includes
classes in Classical Ballet, Jazz Technique, Contemporary, Tap, Musical Theatre and
Acting and is allowing me to progress quickly and intensively, setting up my
foundations for the future. I have also achieved a BTEC National Certificate in
Performing Arts with a Double Distinction, A Level English Language & Literature
with a grade C and AS Drama & Theatre Studies with a grade C at my previous
school, Coombeshead College. So the Performing Arts have been my main priority
for the past 3 years.
In my spare time I like to keep as active as possible. I attend the gym regularly and
have previously played sports such as Basketball and Football, playing for
Okehampton under 12s. Playing for a sports team at a young age has enabled me
to acquire team skills and self-confidence. I am currently building my foundations as
a dancer and all my focus is on becoming the best I can be. I am a confident
performer, and make the most out of every experience. I love to learn new things,
meet new people and am always eager to take part in as much as I possibly can. I
have appeared in many performances and pantomimes including A Chorus Line and
Aladdin in which I was given the principal role of Aladdin in my college production. I
was also part of my Colleges Musical Theatre Group, in which I have taken part in
solo performances and many group numbers performed at The Babbacombe
Theatre Torquay. These have ranged from Fame to Les Miserables, I was also
Assistant Dance Captain and assisted with choreography. In addition, I volunteer at
a local dance school Dartmoor Dancers, assisting in the teaching of Pre-primary to
Grade 2 Ballet. Working with children is great fun, and allows me to experience the
teaching side of a dancers career. I am part of a local film company, The Chagford
Filmmaking group in which I was an extra in the film Cherry of Zenor. This gave me
a glimpse and understanding of the patience needed when filming for television and
the concentration levels required. I love working with film, and it is something I
would like to consider in the future.

Whilst at LIPA this year I am immersing myself into as much as possible. As well as
working exceedingly hard with my training I have also gained a place with a Street
Dance Crew, we are currently working towards competing nationally next year. I am
also part of the cast of a Norwegian musical named Bucaresti, written by one of the
LIPA students. I have also danced at the Liverpool Style Awards with other LIPA
dancers and been a backing dancer for the nationally acclaimed boy band The
Wanted. I love to take advantage of every opportunity offered to me and make the
most if it.
I have also attended two Musical Theatre and Acting summer schools with the
Theatre Royal Plymouth, in which I received positive feedback from my tutors. In
2008 I took part in the Totnes School of Dance Summer School, for which I won the
scholarship to attend the next year for free. This was a fantastic confidence booster,
and my teachers were extremely supportive and encouraging.
Outside of the performing arts I have had a part time job as a Waitress at The
Manor House Hotel, a sporting and craft hotel in my local area. This job has enabled
me to acquire self-discipline, confidence and independence. Previously to attending
Coombeshead College, I spent a year at Exeter College also studying Performing
Arts. From the ages of 11-16, I was home educated. So from this I have a very
strong sense of self discipline, I work very hard to achieve my goals and work
thoroughly. I am an extremely good independent worker and look forward to
continuing to manage my time effectively and working tremendously hard as a
student at your college.
