In his first letter, St. Peter writes, Always be ready to make

your defense to anyone who demands from you an
accounting for the hope that is in you; (1 Peter3:15.) This does not
mean that we should all be able to quote half a dozen theologians
by memory, but it does mean that we should be able to explain in our
own words why we believe what we do about God and His Son Jesus
Christ. In other words, each one of us should have an elevator
speech that we can offer whenever the opportunity arises.
Over the years, I have participated in healing services where the
speaker did not offer a sermon or a homily but a witness talk. That is,
the speaker only gave an account of what he or she had
experienced or seen first-hand much like a witness in court. That
particular setting makes it easy for individuals to offer their elevator
speech. Outside of that context, we are often at a loss to know how
to share our faith without appearing to force it on someone.

Id like to propose a way that we can offer a quiet witness to our faith in and around Duanesburg,
while at the same time providing an opportunity for people to invite us to talk about our faith. I have
purchased several decals of the Episcopal shield that can be placed on a side window of a car. If one
or two of us place them on cars, chances are no one will notice, but if we all do, friends and neighbors
will find that everywhere they turn there is another Episcopalian. Out of curiosity, people might ask why
we chose to display the Episcopal shield and that will provide an opportunity to give an account of
the hope that is in you.
BONUS: If, like me, you own a popular model car, you might find that sometimes it is hard to find your
car in a large parking lot when there are three or four just like it. The decal will make it easy to spot your
car.
The decals will be available after May 10. I encourage you to take one for each of your cars.

The Love of God
I once read about a little boy who had a broken
toy. As his father tried to fix it he realized he was
missing a piece. His son, watching him, sat with a
clenched fist. The father soon discovered the
missing part was in the boys hand. He explained
to his son that he couldnt fix the toy unless the
boy gave up the part to him.
I sensed a lesson in that story. Do we, like the
boy, withhold things from God, our Father? Do we
fail to give up a part of us to Him? Do we fail to
say Thy will be done? In our thoughtlessness, do
we prevent God from fixing our problems? I once
saw a sign:

Before you go to sleep,

Give all your problems to God.
He will be up all night anyway.
Just as the father in the story explained he
could not fix the toy unless the son gave up a part
to him, so it is with God. God our Father cannot fix
our problems unless we give up a part of ourselves
to Him in prayer. Will not God, who in His infinite

love gave His son Jesus Christ, to us in atonement

for our sins; also show us His love in answering our
prayers? God, however, can only answer prayers
that are prayed to Him.

Be careful for nothing,

But in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving
Let your requests be
made known unto God

RUMMAGE SALE
Thank you for your support
Thanks to the hard work of the entire Christ
Church community, the spring rummage sale
was again a success. At this time, a net profit of
at least $850 was realized, and many buyers
were thrilled to receive items that had
previously gone unused. A few high quality
items were set aside to be sold through other
avenues in order to earn an amount respectful
of the value of the donors gift.
Thank you to everyone who donated items,
helped set up, advertised the sale, parked cars,
worked at the event, and cleaned up!
