A Day in the Country

The campground consists of 86 individual
sites, 58 of which have water and electrical
hookups and are comfortably situated in a
grove of majestic oaks. Lake Morena has a
youth camping site, primitive camping areas,
and wilderness cabins. Even if you are not
camping, you can drop in for a picnic lunch
and short hike. Trout fishing is excellent in
winter, and bass start biting in spring (the
current lake record for bass is a 19 lb. 3 oz.
large-mouth, and the record trout weighed 12 lb.
12 oz.). Spring and summer are also good for
panfish. Bring your own boat or rent one of
ours. Hikers will want to explore the Pacific
Crest Trail, which passes through the park on
its way to Canada. Only minutes away from
Lake Morena Regional Park is Campo, where
you can discover local history in the Campo
Stone Store or take an exciting train ride
through the rugged backcountry.

orena Reservoir lies in the middle of

3,250 acres of chaparral, oak woods,
and grassland. In addition to these natural
attributes, the park features some of the most
modern camping facilities in San Diego
County. Picnicking, hiking, fishingLake
Morena Regional Park has something to offer
every outdoor enthusiast.
The lake is the highest (3,000 feet) and
most remote of the citys reservoirs. Because
of its location southwest of the Laguna
Mountains, the park shows characteristics of
desert, coastal, and mountain habitats. This
chaparral woodland is home to a variety of
animals. Bald eagles, bobcats, and many
migratory waterfowl can be observed in the
remote wilderness.
