withtwodeadjihadisandwidespreadcriticismofeventorganizerPamela
GellerforincitingorprovokingtheassaultonourFirstAmendmentright
tofreespeech.Thehypocrisiesandignorancebehindsuchcriticismhave
beenamplydocumented[2] ,includingbysomeontheleft[3] .Buttheres
anotherargumentagainstactionsandeventslikeGellersthatneeds
dismantling.Thisisthereceivedwisdomthatweshouldavoidcriticizing
IslamicdoctrineorMohammedbecauseitwillalienatemoderateMuslims
whootherwisewouldhelpusagainstthesocalledextremistjihadists.
GeraldoRiveraonFoxNewsinvokedthisrationaleinhishystericalattackon
Gellerforspewingherhatredandmakingusalllookliketheintolerantjerks
theyaresayingweareintheMiddleEastandelsewhere.Inotherwords,
mostMuslimsdislikethejihadis,whohavehijackedanddistortedtheir
faith,andwanttosupportoureffortsagainstthem.Buttheyareputoff
byourinsultsofMohammedandourintoleranceofthewonderfulreligionofpeace,allofwhichservetorecruitnew
jihadists.EvenBillOReillyandLauraIngrahamskirtedthisnotion,advisingagainstmakinganyimageofMohammed,andthusin
effectratifyingthelegitimacyofthesharialawagainstanyrepresentationofMohammed,goodorbad.
ConsistentwiththisnotionthatflatteryandrespectcanchangeMuslimbehavior,manyintheforeignpolicyestablishment,
includingconservatives,havefordecadescounseledflatteringoutreachtoMuslimsasatacticinwinningtheheartsand
mindsofthesupposedlargemajorityofMuslimsangryatthejihadistsdistortionsoftheirfaith.Evenbefore9/11,BillClintons
SecretaryofState,MadeleineAlbright,calledIslamafaiththathonorsconsultation,cherishespeace,andhasasoneofits
fundamentalprinciplestheinherentequalityofallwhoembraceit.Evenafter9/11confirmedIslamstraditionaltheologized
violenceandintolerance,GeorgeBushclaimedinhisfirstaddressafter9/11thatIslamsteachingsaregoodandpeaceful,and
thosewhocommitevilinthenameofAllahblasphemethenameofAllah.In2005,administrationofficialsencouragedthistactic
offalseflatteryasawaytosupportthecourageousMuslimswhoarespeakingthetruthabouttheirproudreligionandhistory,and
seizingitbackfromthosewhowouldhijackitforevilends.
OfcourseObama,whohasseriallygroveledbeforeMuslimsandpraisedIslam,hascontinuedthissorrypractice.Afterhis
administrationblamedtheBenghazimurdersonanobscureInternetvideo,helecturedthatthefuturemustnotbelongtothose
whoslandertheProphetofIslam.The2gunmeninGarlandTexasobviouslyagreed.HisquondamSecretaryofStateandnow
presidentialcandidateHillaryClintonisonrecordextollingIslamsdeepestyearningofalltoliveinpeace.Howisthatgoingin
Nigeria,Yemen,Iraq,Syria,andAfghanistan?Worseofall,trainingmaterialsusedbyourmilitaryandsecurityserviceshaveexcised

NewYorkTimesputitin2008.SoObamaidentifiesthe13slaughteredatFortHoodtothetraditionaljihadistcryofAllahuAkbar
asvictimsofworkplaceviolence.NevermindtheKoraniccommandtoslaytheidolaterswhereveryoufindthem,andtakethem
captivesandbesiegethemandlieinwaitforthemineveryambushexactlywhatvariousjihadioutfitsaredoingtodayacrossthe
MiddleEast,andtriedtodoinGarlandTexas.
Twodecadesofsuchflatteryandadmirationhavefailedtopreventnearly26,000violentjihadistattackssince9/11,fortheyare
basedonWesternbadideasratherthanonanaccurateunderstandingofIslamicdoctrineandtheMuslimmentality.Behindour
delusionsisthepeculiarlyarrogantassumptionthattraditionalistMuslimsbywhichImeanthosewhotakeseriouslythedoctrines
andpreceptsoftheirfaithhaspracticedfor14centuriesdonothavetheirownmotivesandaims,butcanonlyreacttoourbad
behavior.Besottedbyourownmaterialistsuperstitionsandfailuretotakereligionseriously,wereducejihadistbehaviortomaterial
andpsychologicalcauses:woundedselfesteem,resentmentofcolonialandimperialcrimes,disrespectofIslam,orthelackof
jobs,politicalfreedom,orevensexualaccesstowomen.
Thusdespiteconsistentpollingdata[4] showingwidespreadMuslimsupportofilliberalsharialawanditsdraconianpenaltieslike
deathforblasphemy,wewontacceptthatmillionsofMuslimsactuallybelievewhattheKoran,Hadith,and14centuriesof
jurisprudenceteachaboutthesuperiorityofIslamandtheirrighttouseviolenceinordertobringthewholeworldunderthesway
ofthesuperiorsocial,economic,andpoliticalorderthatshariarepresents.IntheguiseofrespectingMuslims,then,wepatronize
themaslittlemorethanchildrenwhocanonlyactoutviolentlyinthefaceofinjusticeinsteadofusingtheirwords.Having
reducedourownfaithtoholidaysandcomfortingslogans,wesimplycantbelievethatIslamendorsesviolenceandcrueltyinthe
nameofAllah,orthatotherwiselovingandkindpeople,asbinLadenwassaidtohavebeenbyallwhoknewhim,canatthesame
timeslaughterandbrutalizeinnocentsinpursuitofspiritualaims.No,eithertheyarecrazyorevil,ortheyaretraumatizedby
ourbadbehavior.
ThisdubiouspoppsychologicalassumptionisusuallyaccompaniedbyacatalogueofthehistoricalcrimesagainstMuslims
perpetratedbytheWest,fromtheCrusadestothewarsagainsttheTalibanandSaddamHussein.Thesedepredations,sothestory
goes,alsofuelangerandresentment,andhelptoincentivizeotherwisepeacefulMuslimsintoturningjihadist.Butthisnarrativeis
beliedbythefactsofhistory.ForwhathistorytellsusisthattherecordofMuslimconquest,occupation,colonizing,slaving,raiding,
andkillingofChristiansfarsurpassestheallegedcrimesoftheWestagainstIslam.Werecentlymarkedthecentenaryofthe
OttomangenocideagainsttheChristianArmenians,Assyrians,andChaldeans,acrimebeingduplicatedtodaybyISISinnorthern
Iraq.RecentlyourhistoricallychallengedpresidentwhinedabouttheCrusadesandtheInquisition,withnaryawordaboutthe
centuriesofMusliminvasion,occupation,colonization,andbrutalsuppressioninChristianSpain,Sicily,theBalkans,andGreece.
Orwhataboutthe1066pogrominGranada,theallegedparadiseofpanconfessionalhumanism,asanignorantWallStreet
Journaleditorialclaimedafewyearsback.Thosetolerant,humanistMuslimsslaughtered5000Jews,equalingthetollofdead
duringthewholeexistenceoftheInquisition.ButcananyonenameoneMuslimreligiousleaderintheMiddleEastwhohas
publiclyandconsistentlyapologizedinObamafashionforthese14centuriesofslaughter?Whohasjustifiedourdefensivewarsin
theregionasanunderstandablereactiontothathistory?WhohaschastisedMuslimsfordestroyinganddesecratingchurches,and
blamedthemforinvitingviolentreactions?MuslimTurkeywontevenownuptoitscopiouslydocumentedslaughterof1.5million
Armenians.Ifanyonehasahistoricalgrievancethatjustifiespayback,itisChristiansandJews.
Finally,ifWesterninsultsandcrimesagainstMuslimsarereallythereasonjihadistswanttokillus,whydotheyletRussiaoffthe
hook?NoChristianpowerhaskilledmoreMuslimsoroccupiedmoreMuslimlandsthanhasRussia,fromthesiegeofIzmailin1790,
when40,000Muslimmen,women,andchildrenwereslaughtered,totheinvasionofAfghanistan,whichkilledamillion,tothe
brutalwarsagainstMuslimChechnyans,whichkilledatleast100,000.Orhowaboutthe10millionMuslimUighursoppressedby
Chinaandforbiddentofullypracticetheirfaith?IsRussiaorChinatheGreatSatan?Aretheytheconstanttargetsofjihadist
attackandthunderingdenunciationsbythemullahsofIran?AremoderateMuslimsalienatedbytheirbehaviorandrushingto

Theobviousanswerisno,forthesimplereasonthatRussiaandChinaarecontemptuousofsuchjuvenilepsychologicalblackmail,
pursuetheirnationalinterestswithoutregardforcriticismbytheMuslimcommunity,andrespondwithbrutalforcetoviolent
attacks.MeanwhiletheU.S.hasrescuedmillionsofMuslimsintheBalkans,Kuwait,Iraq,andAfghanistanfrombrutaldictators,
ethniccleansing,andpsychoticautocrats,yetisdeemedIslamophobicbecauseweexerciseourConstitutionalrightsinourown
country.Worseyet,wegrovelandapologizeanddemonizethoselikePamelaGellerwhopracticetheirrighttofreeexpressionata
privatefunction,andwevainlybelievedespiteallevidencethatifwejustactnicetoMuslimsandjointhemindemonizingtheir
critics,theyllignoretheirspiritualbeliefs,thetraditionsoftheirfaith,andthemodelofMohammedandhiscredotofightallmen
untiltheysaythereisnogodbutAllah.
ToparaphraseCiceroandOrwell,therearesomethingssostupidthatonlyrich,arrogantWesternerswillbelievethem.Ifweletthis
presidentcontinuetopredicatehisdealingswithIranonthissamedelusionalbeliefinthepowerofflatteringengagementand
mutualrespect,wewillsoonfindoutthehighcostofthisstupidity.
