Synopsis
The Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) is one big step in creating value to the downstream oil and gas value
chain in Johor. Sited in Pengerang, it is one of the largest investments located on a single plot measuring over 20,000 acres.
The project will house oil refineries, naphtha crackers, petrochemical plants as well as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import
terminal and a regasification plant. As of July 2013, two major catalytic projects have been committed within PIPC.3The RM 10
Billion Pengerang Independent Deepwater Petroleum Terminal (PIDPT) is a joint-venture between DIALOG Group of Malaysia,
Royal Vopak of Netherlands and Johor State Secretary Incorporated (SSI). Construction of Phase 1 of the project has already
65% of overall progress and is scheduled for completion by Q1 2014, while P2 land reclamation is still in progress. Upon
completion in 2020, the total storage capacity available at PIDPT would be approximately five million cubic meters.
The other mega-project within PIPC is the PETRONAS RM 60 billion Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development
(RAPID) Project which is expected to be commissioned by Q4 2017. RAPID will have a 300,000 bbl. per day refining capacity
while additional petrochemical plants will generate value to petroleum products produced by RAPID.
The objective of this Technical Visit is to give an overview to all our members including Young Engineer Section (YES) which
consist of young engineers as well as engineering student member (UTM and UTHM engineering student) on the latest
development of oil and gas projects in Pengerang which is coordinated by Johor Petroleum Development Corporation (JPDC).
IEM Southern Branch is organizing this visit to RAPID Project to see its operations, and also the expansion plans currently taking
place. We are pleased to invite all members to participate in this activity. Details listed as follows.
