ETCS Impact on Skills
The introduction and operation of ETCS will require
a range of new skills and operational methods
across the industry.
Skills impacted are expected to include:
• Train control installation and maintenance
• Signalling
• Driving
• Traction and rolling stock design & build
• Traction & rolling stock maintenance
• Train planning & scheduling
• Trackside working
There will be a need for significant numbers of
railway workers to be trained in a relatively short
period as the ETCS system is rolled out.
