PROPOSAL
YOUNG SCIENTISTS 650
1. INTRODUCTION
As a part of the Universitys mission, BECE (PPG - KPM students and regular students), School of
Education and of Social Sciences is going to carry out a science fair for young children named Young
Scientist 650. This activity is a students academic project in the subject of Science for Young Children (GE
2033).
Science is a way of trying to discover the nature of things . Formal approach in science classes often
promotes this view by memorizing seemingly endless science concepts. Too many teachers approach the
task of teaching children science as if it were a body of knowledge that anyone can memorize. Researches
showed that it is not effective as the knowledge will change and it might not be the one they will use in their
career.
An approach to science teaching that emphasizes on the development of thinking and the open-minded
attitudes of science would seem to be most appropriate to the instruction of young children. Those
attitudes and skills enable children to solve the problems that they encounter in everyday life and their
future.
Therefore through this project, it is hoped that the children can enhance their development of
thinking and scientific attitudes. BECE students will also develop their skills and knowledge in
organizing and teaching science project for young children using effective approach. In the end, this
project can be viewed as a contribution to serve the community by providing the activities for
young children as well as an effective way to promote Early Childhood Program of MSU to the
community.
