HARDWARE DEVICES

OUTPUT DEVICES
These are usually receive data from the CPU
and change it into a form which can be
understood by humans.
In old days most of the output devices are
bigger than the input devices and little heavy
but nowadays they are coming in smaller sizes
and portable to carryout anywhere.

The most common computer output device is the monitor

or computer screen.
Monitors create a visual display from processed data that
users can view.
They come in a variety of screen sizes and visual
resolutions.
There are two types of computer monitors, CRT and flat
panel.
CRT monitors use phosphorescent dots to create the
pixels that make up display images.
Flat panel monitors usually use LCD or plasma to create
output. Light is passed through liquid crystals to create
the pixels.
All monitors rely on a video card that is located on the
computer motherboard or in a special expansion slot.
The video card processes the computer data into image
details that the monitors can display.

Electron Gun which is used in a CRT monitor

CRT monitors are big in size and heavy.

It will take large space to be occupied on a table.
They consume much more electricity to shoot out
the electrons from the electron gun(E-gun) and
low quality display.
Now we can buy these in low price.
If power supply is low CRT monitor dose not work
properly or it doesnt switch on.
Because of this CRT monitors are hated by the
people(users), to solve this problem electronic
device manufacturers introduced LCD monitors.

LCD monitors are very light weighted and can be

occupied on a small space on a table.
Electricity consumption is very lower than CRT.
You can watch High Definition videos and
pictures.
High quality display.
Very thin and easily portable.

LEDs are much thinner than LCDs and much

more low consumption of power.
These are portable and expensive.
Same as LCD but much more quality than it.

Printers are used to print the output data on

paper.
Such output is referred to as printout or hard
copy.
There are many different types of printer but
only the most common types are listed here:

The most widely used printer which prints one

character at a time. The technology has
improved during the recent past to include
very high quality & reasonably fast printers.
These use rows (a matrix) of needles which are
made to impact with an ink-ribbon to make
the pattern of the required character on the
paper.
Although they are relatively cheap to buy,
Dot-matrix printers are very slow, very noisy
and do not give a high quality of print.

Speed in Lines per Minute (LPM)

Used for high volume medium quality
applications.
E.g.: printing of public examination results.

A kind of impact printer where the characters

are arranged on the ends of the spokes of a
wheel (resembling the petals on a daisy).
The wheel (usually made of plastic) is rotated
to select the character to print and then an
electrically operated hammer mechanism
bends the selected spoke forward slightly,
sandwiching an ink ribbon between the
character and the paper, as in a typewriter.
One advantage of this arrangement over that
of a typewriter is that different wheels may be
inserted to produce different typefaces.

These squirt quick-drying ink onto paper to

form the shape of the character being printed.
In comparison to dot-matrix printers, ink-jet
printers are quick, quiet and give a good
quality of print; however they are more
expensive.

Inkjet printer-cartridge

These printers are same as like inkjet

printers

These work in a similar way to photocopiers. A

laser beam is used to create an electric charge
which attracts special black dust to it. The dust
is then transferred to the paper to produce the
printed output.
Laser printers are faster and quieter than inkjet printers and produce a very high quality
print.
They are also relatively expensive.

Computers can be used to output sound in the

form of speech and music.
This has obvious applications in entertainment
and musical composition, and the ability of
computers to produce speech has important
implications for their use by visually impaired
people.

Plotters are devices which, in response to

output signals from the computer, cause a pen
to move across a sheet of paper to produce
drawings such as graphs.

A plotter is a specialized output device

designed to produce high-quality graphics in a
variety of colors. Drum plotters and flat bed
plotters both use pens and electrostatic
plotters do not.

Projector is a device that can display in a very

large screen.
Projectors are used to show videos, pictures
or a demonstration in a big crowed of people.
These are not commonly used in normal
issues because these projectors are much
more expensive than other devices that have
been mentioned above.

As demonstrated above output devices are

most important to humans because without
them humans cant get the output for the
input as they preferred way.

Some examples of output device manufactures :

Most of the manufacturers those listed above were also

producing the other output devices too.
