Its a Girl The Wilton Fire Department announced the delivery of its new fire engine last week with a pun on their billboard,
where they often post the births of volunteers children. The 2015 Alexis Freightliner No. 916 arrived May 22, weighing 36,400
pounds and measuring 28 feet, 8 inches long. According to volunteer Patrick Shook, it is a tender/tanker truck that will be
used to supply field trucks with water during coverage of grass and field fires. It also has the capacity to fight fires on its own.
The new fire engine cost approximately $270,000, which was funded through tax dollars from the townships within the fire
departments coverage area. Shook said, On behalf of all of the Wilton Fire Department members, thanks to the citizens we
cover for allowing us to have the capability to purchase equipment like this.

When Wilton city council members met

for their regular meeting May 27, captain Pat
Shook of the Wilton Fire Department was
waiting to address council.
He brought a proposal from Wilton Fire/
EMS to sell its 1992 Spartan
chassis fire truck to the
Fruitland Fire Department.
According to materials from the Wilton Fire
Department, the 1992
truck, known as Wilton Fire 913, is currently used as a backup truck, for training and
as a transport vehicle for mutual aid calls to
Muscatine.
Its a really nice truck, we hate to see it
sit around and collect dust, said Shook. The
department currently uses a 2008 pumper truck
with Wilton Fire 913 as a backup.
Shook said Fruitland Fire Department is in
our district and in our county they really
want it.
The proposal was to sell the truck to
Fruitland for $22,500 paid in two installments:
$12,500 up front and $10,000 due May 1,
2016.
Council members asked about risk to the
department with losing the truck. Shook said
while the 2008 pumper would no longer have
a backup, we do have a 2001 (truck) that can
also be used. We wont be in a bind.
Mayor Ira Bowman said as long as there
was no risk to the department it seemed like
a fair deal. The sale of the truck to Fruitland
was approved.
