Self-propelled hydraulic multi-purpose system
A self-propelled hydraulically operated elevator system was
designed and developed for facilitating orchard operations like
harvesting, pruning and spraying in crops like mango, oranges
and oil palm etc. The unit can be rotated 360o and has handcontrols on the operator platform. It has self-steering
mechanism and 2.7 kW petrol engine as prime mover. The reel
height of the machine is 1.8 m which makes it suitable for a
variety of operations in medium height orchards including oil
palm.
The effectiveness of different tools is increased due to direct
access to the canopy. Traditionally ladders and pole mounted
tools are being used which has limited access to the tree.
Overall dimensions : 6320x2200x1890 mm
Ground clearance : 270 mm
A height of six meters can be reached.
Maximum ground speed: 3 km/h
Rs.7,00,000/- (approximately)

1. Better quality fruits with less bruising resulted better

price.
2. Effective pruning and spraying operation because of better
reach to the canopy.

It reduces drudgery and enhances operator comfort.

It eliminates the chances of falling down of the operator
compared to the conventional system which can result in fatal
injury or death of the climber

Self propelled vertical conveyor reaper (walk behind type)
The self-propelled vertical conveyor reaper, also known as walk
behind type harvester, consists of 6 hp diesel engine, crop row
dividers, star wheels, standard cutter bar having 76.2 mm pitch
of knife sections, vertical conveyor belts with lugs, steel lugged
wheels, power transmission system and operating controls.
The engine power is transmitted to cutter bar and conveyor
belts through belt and pulleys. The effective cutter bar width is
about 1 m. It weighs 245 kg.
Overall Dimensions: 2450x1200x1000 mm
Weight
: 245 kg
Power source
: 6 hp diesel engine
Field capacity
: 0.2-0.25 ha/h
Field efficiency
: 65-70 %
Fuel consumption
: 0.75-0.8 l/h
Total losses
: 1.0-1.5% (Paddy), 3.0-4.0% (Soybean)
Cost
: Rs. 1,00,000/Cost of operation
: Rs. Rs 1000/ha
The skilled labour requirement for harvesting by self propelled
reaper is 5 man-h/ha The unskilled labour requirement for initial
field preparation, collection and binding of harvested crop is
about 40 man-h/ha, which means the total labour requirement
for harvesting, collecting and bundling of crop when using a self
propelled reaper is 45 man-h/ha, whereas for the same job with
manual sickle harvesting the labour requirement is 176 manh/ha. Thus, there is a saving of 131 man-h/ha through use of
self-propelled reaper for harvesting of crop, i.e. almost 75% less
labour.
The saving in labour results in almost 40% saving in cost of
operation.

Tractor operated straw reaper-cum-trailer
This design has the provision of trolley over the straw reaper for
collecting the straw. It harvests straw of combine harvested
wheat field, gathers shattered ear heads as uncut plants from
the field, threshes straw into fine quality bhusa and separates
collected grains. Simultaneously it blows bhusa (fine straw) in
the in-built overhead trailer. Thus the work of harvesting,
threshing, loading and unloading is done with only one tractor
while in the existing system additional tractor and trailer is
required to collect the straw.

It reduces turning radius by 4 m as compared to straw combine
and thereby facilitates easy operation even in smaller fields.
Less fatigue to the machine operator, easy in loading and
unloading of the straw

Design consideration of Rainwater harvesting pond in vertisols

Design parameters of rain water harvesting pond under vertisols of Madhya
Pradesh are as follows :
Average depth of pond = 3.0 m with standard specifications of bunds in vertisols
(Minimum bund top width = 3.0 m, side slope of H:V=2 :1).
Design rainfall (monsoon Season) = 920 mm
Design runoff depth to fill pond every year = 300 mm
Average pond area = 10-12 per cent of watershed area.
Seepage loss during July-September = 300 mm
Losses due to seepage & evaporation = 30% of storage capacity of pond
Utilisable storage = 70% of designed storage capacity for irrigating crop.
The design parameters were validated by constructing nine water harvesting
ponds of varying watershed area at different locations in Bhopal. Entire kharif and
50% of rabi crop can be irrigated twice with two fold increase in yield. Increase in
yield due to irrigation was 0.6 t/ha, 1.59 t/ha, 1.56 t/ha and 1.39 t/h for soybean,
rice, wheat and chickpea respectively.
Pond is to be excavated on 10% area of watershed.
Excavation cost is Rs 40/ m3 of earthwork.
Rs. 1,50,000/ ha-m of water storage capacity
(using bulldozer and hydraulic buck scraper)
Higher farmers income through increased productivity. The benefit cost ratio is
2.0 considering total benefit and cost under irrigated condition.
For horticultural crops, the payback period for water harvesting and recycling with
micro-irrigation systems is 6 years.
Prevents soil degradation, improve ecology and increases ground water
recharging.
The developed water storage can be used for aquacultural purposes.
Supplemental 1-2 irrigation in kharif & 2-3 irrigations in rabi season.
Ground water recharge during 4-6 month storage period @ 8000-10000 m3/ha
water spread area
Technology of water harvesting pond has been adopted by Madhya Pradesh (MP)
State Government under Rajiv Gandhi Watershed Mission Programme during XI
Plan.
The farmers of adopted watersheds under Rajiv Gandhi Watershed Mission
Programme in MP State.

Rs. 1.25 lakhs
Cost of operation = Rs. 1500-200/ha
No significant difference in the yield was observed when the
crop was planted on the same day for both the conventional
and strip tillage systems. However, with the strip-tillage
system, a time saving of 65 to 70% in comparison with the
conventional tillage planting was obtained. Thus, by
adopting the strip tillage planting technology for wheat, the
timeliness of operation improved significantly resulting in an
increase in the total yield of wheat.

Arecanuts are harvested at physiological maturity and
sundried to reduce moisture content upto 6 to 7 %. After
drying, the dehusking is done by women workers using a
country kitchen tool having a wooden plank and curved
MS blade. This conventional method is highly labour
intensive, time consuming, uneconomical and above all
very unsafe for fingers and palms. This machine helps to
reduce the drudgery as well as injuries to workers during
this operation.

OUAT Iron Plough
Developed as a substitute to the traditional animal drawn
wooden plough used in Odisha. The implement consists of a
wooden body and an iron bracket and share fitted to the
body. The size of blade of iron plough has been matched to
draught capacity of medium size bullocks of Odisha.
Overall dimensions (LxWxH), mm- 2200x300x1200
Width of share, mm- 10mm in front and 300 mm behind
Weight without beam, kg- 9.8
Field capacity, ha/h - 0.057
Draught, N- 450-500
Depth of operation, mm- 80-100
Initial cost, Rs- 2000/Cost of operation, Rs/ha Rs 270
Due to standardization in size of blade, the iron plough has
become matching to draught capacity of medium bullocks of
Odisha. This has resulted in 20% higher field capacity with
corresponding reduction in cost of operation.
This is a simple technology, which can be made by village
artisans. Through matching of size of implement to power
source less animal fatigue and increased daily work output
has been obtained.
Local artisans of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkenal,
Nayagarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur,
Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of
Odisha are fabricating this plough in large numbers.
