DescriptionoftheEverestsimulation
Inthisonlinesimulation,youwillplayoneoffiveormorerolesonateamofhikersattemptingto
reachthesummitofMountEverest.Eachparticipantwillbegiveninformationandresourcestouse
duringtheclimb.

Someteamswillhaveasixthperson,theobserveroftheteam.Thisteammemberisintheunique
positionofbeingabletooverseewhatishappeningduringthesimulation.Thoseteamsfortunate
enoughtohaveasixthmemberwillfindthemaninvaluableresourceforboththesimulationand
theassessment.Inexceptionalsituation,thecoordinatormayallocateasevenmemberteam.This
meanstheteamwillhavetwoobservers.

Preparationforthesimulation
YoumustfillinthepreferredcontactdetailssheetfoundonMoodle(coursewebsite)andgiveitto
yourtutorbeforetheweek2tutorial(byweekstarting9March).Ifyouchangetutorials,giveyour
contactdetailstoyournewtutor.

ActivateyourUNSWstudentemailaccountasanynotificationofteamchangeswillbesenttothis
emailaddress.

InWeek4(weekbeginning23March),youwillfindinformationaboutwhoisonyourteamandthe
linktotheEverestsimulationontheMoodle(coursewebsite).

Everyeffortwillbemadetoensureyouareabletocompletethesimulationwithateamof5or
moreplayersifthecoordinatorisadvisedbytheabovedates.

TheSimulation
Studentsmustorganiseamongtheirteammateswhenandwheretheywilldobothsimulations.
Participationinbothsimulationsiscrucial,withoutwhichyouwillnotbeabletowriteyour
assignment2.

Eachpersonmustusetheirowncomputerwithinternetaccess.Teamsarestronglyencouragedto
tryatleastoneexerciseasavirtualteaminseparatelocationsusingtheirowncomputers.For
bothEverest1and2,thesimulationmustbeplayedbyeveryoneatthesametime.

ThereisalinkonMoodle(coursewebsite)thatwillgiveyouaccesstotheEverestwebsite.Each
personshouldreadthepreparatorymaterialfortheirroleonlinebeforethesimulation.

Duringthesimulation
Somegroupmembersmayneedtoberescuedandhelicopteredoffthemountainduringthe
simulation.Thesepeopledonotquitthesimulation,butmuststayengagedandincontactwith
theirteammembersuntilthesimulationisfinished.

Assessment
ThereisnoalternateassessmentfortheEverestReport(Assignment2).Thusitiscrucialthatyour
teamisorganisedandarrangesatimetodothesimulationandthateachteammemberattendsat
thattime.YouwillnotbeabletocompletetheEverestReportifyoudonotparticipateinthe
Everestexercise.
Aftereachsimulationallteammembers,exceptfortheObserver,willtakeascreenshotandprint
offthepercentageofindividualgoalsachievedandthepercentageofteamgoalsachievedonthe
website.Ifyouareunabletoprintoffthisinformation,besuretowritedownyourresults.Thereis
