A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF
F&N DAIRIES (M) SDN BHD
Almost every Malaysian has had a taste of F&N while growing up. Be it the sweetened
condensed milk, evaporated milk, pasteurised milk, UHT milk, juice or ice cream. And as
Malaysia grew, so did the company now known as F&N Dairies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
F&N's dairy business grew out of a joint venture with Beatrice Foods of Chicago, USA in
1959 with the construction of Southeast Asias first sweetened condensed milk plant in
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The Carnation Company, also from the US, joined the partnership in
1965 to form Premier Milk as the manufacturing arm. This partnership proved enterprising
as within that year, the highly successful Evaporated Milk was launched.
In 1989, the Group acquired the interests of Beatrice Foods and restructured its dairy
operations under F&N Dairies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. It was expanded further with the
acquisition of Magnolia in 1995. In 1998, the Group commenced its pasteurised business.
In 2007, the company successfully acquired the Tea Pot brand and remaining interests in
Premier Milk from Nestle, including the licensing and distribution of the Carnation, Cap
Junjung, and Ideal brands in Malaysia, marking the beginning of a new era of more success
for F&N Dairies Malaysia in a highly competitive landscape.
It is by no sheer coincidence that F&N Dairies (M) Sdn Bhd is the undisputed leader in the
Sweetened Condensed Milk and Evaporated Milk market, attested to by the millions of
Malaysians of all walks of life who enjoy their daily treasured moments with a cup of teh

tarik or coffee, cakes or confectionery or the wide and delectable range of Malaysian cuisine
made from F&Ns broad range of dairy products.
In fact, F&N Sweetened Condensed Milk commands more than 60 per cent penetration of
Malaysian homes. Based on the over 500 million cans of milk products produced and sold
annually, on average each Malaysian consumes 200 mugs of beverages brewed with F&N
creamers per annum!
Today, F&N Dairies Malaysia is one of the oldest and largest producers of dairy products in
the region, exporting to over 40 countries worldwide, and a leading market player in the
canned milk, pasteurised milk and juice segment with its strong portfolio of wellloved brands
such as F&N, Tea Pot, Carnation, Ideal, Gold Coin, F&N Magnolia, Farmhouse, Sunkist and
Fruit Tree Fresh.
In 2011, F&N Dairies (Malaysia) disposed off its entire ice cream business to F&N
Creameries (M) Sdn Bhd, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraser and Neave, Limited
(F&NL) as part of the overall consolidation process undertaken by F&NL for its ice cream
business.

4.
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF F&N PROPERTIES SDN BHD

F&N Properties is a business unit of Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, formed to unlock the
value of land acquired and held by the company for many years. Our first foray, the former
F&N factory land at Jalan Foss, has been developed into a vibrant commercial spot today
called the Fraser Business Park.
Our development follows the general direction of Fraser & Neaves underlying philosophy of
a socially responsible corporate citizen. Our key value lies within the emphasis of
continuously creating innovative designs and applications towards our development, giving
its occupants a taste of the modern and the future alike.
The 12.72-acre site that housed the Groups previous dairy manufacturing plant in Section
13, Petaling Jaya, has been earmarked for an integrated residential and commercial

development encompassing apartment blocks, a hotel, retail outlets and office lots with a
total gross development value of RM1.6 billion. The project, based on a total lifestyle
concept, is being undertaken by a joint venture (JV) company between FCL Centrepoint Pte
Ltd (FCL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraser and Neave Ltd (Singapore), and Fraser &
Neave Holdings Bhd. The FCL Group is a prominent property developer with an established
international track record in Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and United
Kingdom.
In 2013, the JV company obtained approval for the Master Development Plan and went on
to enhance the design of various components of the project by drawing upon the
design expertise of FCL. At the same time, the company proceeded with the land conversion
and lease extension process, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2014.
Although changes in the regulatory environment have
lengthened the approval process, the residential portion of the development is anticipated to
be launched in the fourth quarter of the next financial year.

Environmental Stewardship
At F&N, we believe that our commitment to integrity in everything we do will be manifested
through a sound environmental push. From our early beginnings, we have implemented and
executed various environmental stewardship initiatives that go beyond compliance
requirements in order to minimize our environmental footprint throughout each phase of our
products life cycle.

Waste Reduction
As part of our aim to reduce waste, we have launched numerous recycling campaigns in
schools to inculcate good environmental habits among young people and thus, create
awareness on the importance of recycling.
Since 2007, F&N Beverages and the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA)had embarked on a 3month recycling campaigns annually to inculcate and revive the spirit of recycling in school
children.
Other ongoing environmental projects undertaken included its employee recycling program,
a backwash water recovery system and the operation of a sophisticated effluent treatment
plant which treated all wastewater from the factory before discharge into the common public
drains.
To reduce waste generated from manufacturing activities, we also encouraged our raw
materials and packaging suppliers to switch to reusable or recycled packaging materials
such as cartons, pallets and boxes. In addition, the manufacturing process is also given
greater attention to make it more efficient in order to improve its conversion rate.

Energy Management
Cleaner operations at our soft drinks and dairies plants were achieved after completion of a
program to incorporate environmental-friendly natural gas energy sources into all our
manufacturing operations.
Our dairies manufacturing operations in collaboration with Gas Malaysia, utilised LNG over
traditional fuel resulting in energy savings of RM2.6 million every year since 2004.
The setting up of our in-house PET bottle-blowing plant at the soft drinks manufacturing
facility in Shah Alam has helped lessen logistics, storage and handling cost and boosted
overall manufacturing efficiency and quality control. In the process, we also managed to do
our bit for the environment as the move helped do away with more than 4,800 lorry trips
per year that were previously made by our PET supplier in Johor.
For the past few years, F&N has attained significant energy efficiency through the use of
efficient air-conditioning system, energy saving light, automated machine controls and
energy-efficient building components.

Water Conservation
In 2005, F&N commissioned a RM2.8 million pilot plant to upgrade waste water treatment
and conservation at the soft drinks division in Kuching. The plant is Sarawaks first
environmentally friendly plant and also the first waste water treatment facility of its kind to
be introduced within the entire Coca-Cola eco-system in Southeast Asia. This backwash
water recovery system which recycles water used in the incoming water filtration process
has provided savings of about RM300,000 per year for the Group.

F&N places paramount importance on assisting the communities around us. The Group and
its employees have a deep sense of responsibility and actively contribute their time, energy
and resources towards the betterment of our communities.
We aim to be leader as catalysts of positive changes in the community where our employees
live, work and raise their families. While our business constantly grows and develops, we

are aware that the true measure of success is our legacy to make this world a better place
for all around us.
Over the years, we have carried out numerous activities for the benefit of the elderly and
orphans within the local communities. These include, among others, the setting up of a
knowledge corner - Sudut Iqra - at orphanages in Perlis and Kedah to cultivate the love for
reading among orphans, celebrating the festive season with less fortunate individuals and
rewarding our employees children via educational contributions.
Building on its success, a third Sudut Iqra was set up at Yayasan Anak-Anak Yatim Pinggir
TTDI (Rumah Ilham) as part of the companys national programme to promote reading and
increase proficiency in the English language among children. It is the Companys aspiration
to establish a Sudut Iqra in every state in Malaysia.
Children of the homes in Perlis and Kedah also benefitted from confidence building cum
motivation workshops to imbue in them the benefits of reading. The program has begun
bearing fruit with the children showing improved essential living skills through teamwork
exercises in the preparation of case studies and presentations using the treasury of reading
materials readily available in their libraries. Both homes received an additional contribution
of books worth over RM2,000 respectively in 2008.
Another ongoing project was the team-building programme held at Jungle Lodge Alang
Sedayu in Gombak to encourage mental and social development and interaction among
underprivileged children. A series of team-building exercises was carried out to help boost
their self-confidence, develop a sense of camaraderie and foster racial unity among the
children.
The Group also partakes in community outreach programmes especially in conjunction with
festive celebrations such as Aidilfitri, whereby underprivileged children are treated to
berbuka puasa treats and goodies. For the aged, there are the annual visits to home for the
aged and infirm. On separate occasions, many shelters receive contributions from the Group
and its subsidiaries in the form of monetary donations, food and beverage and necessities.
In Thailand, F&N Dairies (FNDT) continued its CSR endeavours through donations and
sponsorship of education and sports, among which was a donation of Bear Brand UHT and
Milo UHT milk products to underprivileged children from Bahn Kru Noi. FNDT was also one

of the sponsors of the Advertising Award organized by the Consumers Protection

Organisation under the Prime Ministers Ministry. This award was extended to organizations
that practice responsible communication to consumers.
The Group remains a prominent sponsor of some of Malaysias most popular sporting
events. Football continued to be a mainstay in 100PLUS sporting partnerships with the
brand contributing nearly RM1 million to the Minister of Education Football League (MEFL)
a joint project between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Football Association of
Malaysia (FAM) that aims to raise the standard of football in Malaysia. Other initiatives
included the 100PLUS Super Cup, which continued to develop and nurture junior sports
talent.
Other high-profile, branded events were the prestigious 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open,
the nations premier junior golf tournament, which saw Malaysias junior golfers sweeping
eight out of the nine titles up for grabs. This year marked the ninth consecutive year
100PLUS has sponsored a major junior golf tournament.
To further its efforts to recognise and reward sports development, 100PLUS jointly
organised the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) Excellence Awards 2009 to
recognise the contributions of local athletes towards the country. The 2009 100PLUS SAM
Award was presented to World No. 1 badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei who was the
reigning Sportsman of the Year, Olympian of the Year and winner of the Malaysian Open title
and the Super Series Masters Final.

F&N Out-Do Yourself Award

The F&N Group on 24 July 2008 launched the Out-Do Yourself Award (OYA) in conjunction
with its 125th anniversary to recognise individuals who raise above the call of duty to
perform standout deeds ranging from bravery, chivalry, promoting nation building to
outstanding sports, academic or business performance.
F&N's Out-Do Yourself Award seeks to recognise and celebrate deserving Malaysians and
foreign residents in Malaysia with an extraordinary outlook on life and inculcate a culture of
recognition for truly outstanding performance.

This is a prestigious award bestowed fairly and objectively to deserving persons every
quarterly by a panel of judges comprising senior journalists. In all a maximum of twelve
persons will be recognised annually. The award consists of a cash award of RM3,000,
certificate of recognition, engraved plaque and F&N products. The panel will meet at regular
intervals to deliberate and determine the winners of the award.

Responsible Marketing
When consumed responsibly, our products add flavor and enjoyment to our consumers
lives. As a leading household name, our consumers well being is our top most priority. As
such, the Group promotes responsible consumption and we are committed to delivering on
our brand promise.
At F&N, we ensure that our products reach our consumers in full compliance with the
statutory Food Regulations of the markets we operate in. We have obtained the necessary
certification and licenses and we undergo regular audits to remain in compliance.
An informed consumer is a happy consumer. In todays marketplace, consumers are more
and more conscientious about the products they buy especially when it comes to food &
beverage. Our product packaging lists among others, calorie, sugar, protein and vitamin
contents. The ingredients of each product are also clearly stated to provide consumers with
all the information they need to make the right choice. This is to ensure that consumers are
aware of the contents in their chosen product and will be able to consume it safely.
We also offer instructions on usage. This includes recipe formulation, food applications and
suggestions on how our products can complement our consumers lifestyle.
As part of its efforts to help in nation-building, in 2008, F&N Dairies worked with the
Ministry of Information in January to promote awareness of the Rukun Negara which was
carried on the labels of about 11 million cans of F&N Vitaminised, F&N Sweetened Creamer
and Gold Coin Creamer. It was aimed at reaching as many Malaysians as possible to pledge
their support for the Rukun Negara, be it in business practices and work ethics, or their daily
lives.
