You must be motivated to study journalism. If you are not, you will give your
studies and your interest up on the first try.
Consider the possibility of studying a degree in journalism. Even
if you do not see it necessary, it will offer you interesting tools and the
possibility of doing professional practice in mass media.
After ending your studies and doing professional practice in diverse mass
media, you have two options:doing a Master's or a PhD; or trying to look for
a job. The last one is the most complicated option because today media
companies are laying off more than hiring.
Also, you can go freelance if you believe in a product and you can offer it to
other companies. If it is well done and it is original, you can be sure that
they will be interested.
But the most important thing is that you believe in yourself and do not give
up at the first difficulty. If you are self-confident, the opportunities will
appear. And especially now, with the large possibilities that the Internet offers.
Born to teach
In earlier times, teachers were very important people in the towns and cities.
They enjoyed enormous respect from society. Nowadays, society has
changed and with it the way you see teachers.
Being a good teacher is a very hard work. It requires a great effort. A teacher's
day never ends with the last lesson. They give up personal time for preparing
exams and then correcting them, meetings with other teachers, meetings with
parents, have to preparing lessons for the next day, etc.
Lesson
planning can
be
with a textbook or preparing
a Powerpointpresentation, or working on Moodle or searching adequate
material for their classes. There are a lot of pupils with attention
In short, designers must be more than creative peopleI hope to find my place in the
ceramic world again!
TEACHER JOB
Some people believe that being a teacher is an easy job because we have a good
work schedule, a lot of holidays and so on. Also, I work as a teacher and I think my
job involves a lot of practical things.
Firstly, I work in a secondary school, that is, I work with teenagers. In my opinion,
they are in the worst ages because they do not know what they want to do. They
need to test different experiences and, the most important thing, they do not care
about their studies. In addition, nowadays teenagers not have a polite behaviour
and not respect teachers neither classmates.
Secondly, teachers have to made a great effort to catch the students attention and
the interest. Currently, there are a lot of technology which we can use to do it. For
example, we can use a projector to show movies or images which could be
interesting to learn some concepts. Furthermore, there are computer labs in
schools and students can search on the Internet if we guide them. Although, we
have to be careful with social networks because students can want to check their
accounts.
And last but not least, I believe that teachers should be extremely patients. We
usually live an unpleasant situation because of our students and parents' behaviour
is not correct. Nevertheless, we have a reward when pupils learn or show their
affection to you.
To sum up, as I have already mentioned, being teacher is a hard job because you
can live strange situations. It will be a perfect work for you, if you do not like routine
and like working with teenagers.
We can not deny that the role of a teacher has changed over the years in different
ways. Can you imagine how hard it is staying in a classroom with thirty-five
teenagers with different levels, motivations and some of them with unruly
behaviours?
There is no doubt that it is a very demanding job. Sometimes teachers have to act
as psychologists with students, apart from listening to worried parents
telling their stories, preparing the classes for the next day, correcting lots of
exams and so on. They have a never-ending workday.
But despite these disadvantages, teaching is a magical job. Teachers can get the
message across, not only the ones in the books, but also, lots of practical things
which improve student's life. For instance, knowledge about the importance of
following a healthy diet or raising awareness of the importance of taking care of
the environment. Most importantly, they can teach/promote important
values for stents' lives.
Consequently, how would you feel if you realized that you can shape
teenagers' personality and have a positive influence on them? Surely, you would
feel amazed.
If you ever have the chance of teaching, I strongly recommend you to try something
different everyday. Currently, there is a whole range of possibilities in teaching
because of new technology. Use it!. It is just amazing how easy it is catching the
students' attention. You only need to use a laptop with a projector to increase
their motivation. Perhaps it is the key to bridging that gap.
Don't you think it would be fantastic to have a new challenge every day?.
If you are thinking of studying but are not sure what to do, first of all consider
whether you are interested in doing a degree or you would prefer vocational
training. You should not be afraid of this situation, there is always an easy solution
to every problem [???].
When I was younger I didn't pass my final exams so I repeated my second year. At
themoment I had many emotions and my mind still was not clear about my future.
What was the correct way? Would I want my decision? [???]
I was repeating because I didn't like some subjects: Chemistry and Physics. These
subjects were complicated and I thought: "If I don't pass these exams, will I pass
university exams?. I was confused so when the final was coming I decided to go
for some vocational training related to building. I remember spending a good time
with my teacher and my classmates and I had the best marks in my class! I felt very
secure so I could go to the University. [???]
[Your story is not clear unless you explain this bit a little more...]
When I was an undergraduate I remember staying up all night before exams but I
liked that feeling. Besides, my knowledge was better than my colleagues because I
had learnt a lot in my vocational training. I was lucky and I was awarded/granted a
scholarship for three years.
My conclusion is that the most important thing is to be certain about your
decisions, but if you make a mistake, nothing is lost. You have all the time
to correct/rectify it and, as as they say, all roads lead to Rome.
You've been thinking about chemistry. The first thing you must
ask yourself/consider is why. Are you interested in Human Health? Or
perhaps you're fed up with energy and environment? And then you've
knowledge not all chemists wear white coats? because you can get jobs
such as:quality control chemist, teacher, sales representative,
environmental chemist, forensic chemist... [???- this 1st paragraph is
very messy; unclear...]
Furthermore, you will have to be good atmaths and sciences,
because the most important subjects you will study are maths, chemistry
and physics. Secondly, you must know the main focus of this career in
your daily routine, [???!!!] you have to testing many materials,
intermediates and you usually will have to identify impurities.
Why Humanities?
I havehad / done several jobs in the last few years, most of them completely
different from each other, but I've never forgotten the universal principles,
which sometimes this society seems to have lost. (Of course, not all the society,
nowadays we can still find some wonderful people who break the stereotype).
[what are those principles???]
Humanities can offer you a new kind of world where you can find the secret of the
life out by yourself. Obviously Humanities doesn't give you the secret, but it shows
you the different ways, and you have to choose. Each choice opens other doors,
and you have to choose again, completely free up to [until is time, not
space] where you want to go. The doors are open, you only have to walk
through them and keep going.
Doyou want to try that? Come and discover the amazing world of the
Humanities, and you will be able to understand the sentence: "I just know that I
don't know anything.

DISTANCE COURSES
Everybody knows that English has become the most important language in the
world nowadays; besides, there are a lot of documents, books and other
brackets[???!!!] only available in this language. Because of that, learning
English is necessary nowadays, and there are a lot of ways to do it. Personally,
I am learning English with a distance course, and I have been doing it for two
more years, so I am going to give my opinion about this option.
Firstly, the main advantage of distance courses is that you do not need to
move to anywhere to do it; you can learn in/from your own home, and it is a
very good option for people who live away from big cities or places with English
schools. Moreover, with these courses there aren't timetables, so you can study
or do your homework when you can or you want, whatever the time; that's
why distance courses are good for people who work every day or have other
responsibilities during the day.
All in all, I think that we should be very careful when choosing our learning
approach, because each person has different abilities and needs. So, if you
decide to do a distance course, don't forget that it's as important as a face to
face course, an, maybe you will need more effort to get the same results.
First of all, I don't like to recommend my career or my job ,but I don't like to
influence anyone because it's a very personal business. And in my opinion
everyone knows what they like what they don't. I mean, you know if you prefer
maths, chemistry, art or literature. But maybe my own experience can help you to
decide if you want to try out my studies: Art History.
So, I'm going to tell you why I decided to do these studies precisely.
When I was child I would have liked to be a paediatrician because my best
friend would have liked to be gynaecologist; like this we could work together in
the same clinic and I could take care of sick children, although I must recognize
that it wasn't a good idea. Today I can't imagine myself as a doctor. No, definitely I
couldn`t be a paediatrician because it is a great responsibility.
After that, I grew up and I really enjoyed studying history and literature
very much at school, so when I began COU I was certain that I wanted to study
History or Hispanic Literature but then I discovered Art History, and it was amazing.
Because it was like history, literature and art togrther. That was the reason that I
chose to study Art History.
While studying Art History I've been able to discover a new expression
forms of the human being, like music, dance and especifically, art. But also
architecture and it's very important to know the context, I mean the history (all the
sociopolitics and socioeconomics matters), the literary currents and so on
because all these subjects (issues) are part of us, our history and therefore our art.
We need to understand what happens around the world to appreciate the
different forms artistic expression takes. Everything happens for a
reason and we have the opportunity to live and feel all these experiences
through art. We can see all the points of view of our past in our present [???!!! clarity!], it's extraordinary!. Because every artistic movement is a consequence
In conclusion, if you enjoy learning history, literature, music and architecture, you'll
love History of art like me; if not, don't worry because there are so many interesting
studies / degrees ...waiting for you.
So, my little advice for you is that you have to study what you really like,
not what career is better to get money or to find the best job because, at the
end of the day, what's really important is you and your choices for
life, not money; you must never forget this.
Develop non-technical skills. Nobody taught you at the university how how
to speak in public, how to prepare a presentation, summarize an idea, etc.
But all these things are essential. Even if you are an excellent professional,
nothing will be any worth if you can not pass on what you know. So you do
not focus only on the technical aspects and start reading about public speaking,
presentations, etc.
Make yourself known to the world. Create a CV Web aimed at job you want, and
keep it alive. You can go to Linkedin to create a web. To send the CV in pdf is
becoming history. Today you do not send the CV to anyone; it is people
who go and looks for you, look at Google, Linkedin, etc., and check your CV, and
if no CV ... bad. And as a corollary to this point: control your reputation online.
My first recommendation is to prepare yourself as much as you can when you are
young: You should start studying engineering and languages, at least English and
learn to speak it as it was/were your mother tongue. Afterwards you should
go abroad to finish your studies or make your final project. And finally you will need
a master's. In the meantime, you could dos some work practice in a
company during the summer so you can keep in touch with real work.
It's so difficult for me to give advice to people that, somehow, can change their
future, especially when I don't know them.
I'll try to explain, in a few lines, my own experience about my career. The first
advice I can give you is that you must interpret this lines and decide for yourself
how they can help to build your future.
When I was a child I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian or an artist;
sodifferent, aren't they? A friend of my parents', an artist, came home often and
he oftenplayed many times with me and strengthened my artistic inclination.
Gradually over timemy love of art increased until I graduated in Fine Arts. The
time at university was extraordinary, like a dream. Then,
when I finally graduated, I wasted a lot of time looking for work and taking
courses that, really, I didn't want to do. But over time you realize
that everything teaches you something, and now, I am, somehow, a result
of it all / everything I did. Nowadays, in many cases, creative companies pay
more attention / bear in mind not 'what you studied' but 'what you can do'.
Finally I want to give you a second piece of advice: never lose your dreams and try
to reach them whenever you can. All things you'll do can/will/could add a little
something in the process to reach them.
So that Family is really relevant at the beginning because they can help us to
choose or rather to guide us in that hard decision To get the ideal job. They
could help us to seek our path.
New jobs keep appearing in our society. Jobs that we couldn't imagine
ten years ago. There is an American boy who's earning thousand of dollars in a
month playing computer games. He plays solving trucks [???] in different
computer games, then makes a video and uploads it on Youtube. And as he
has millions of visitors, Youtube pays him money. He's eleven and a multimillionaire.
Definitely, the Internet is the best way to get informed and completely updated.
The new generation of children will change our way of life, ours customs and
manners. Their minds work much quicker than ours and in the end we will be
outdated and they will choose and lead on our future.
BECOMING A TEACHER
I am going to write about my profession and offer some information that you need to know if you want to
become a teacher.
Teachers at primary or nursery school are vocational, because they have wanted to become teachers since they
were children. They are what they are by choice because they like children. But being a teacher by vocation
at secondary school is different because teenagers are at a difficult age. [why those capital
letters???]
On the other hand, companies have less employees in times of crisis and public employment is another option.
Furthermore, It is a secure job until your retirement.
In my case, I investigated the new vocational training. Now, It is different from 20 years ago when I studied
at high school. There are a lot of kinds of occupation, It is more practical because It only has subjects related to
each profession. [again: why those capital letters???]
One of the requirements to become a vocational training teacher is to pass a public examination. It is very hard
and you need to prepare yourself for some years. Furthermore, people don`t have a lot of experience in teaching
teenagers. For these reason, you need to learn about education laws, speaking in public
and do/take a teacher training course. The first experience with students in this course is the most
important one.
In addition, my brother, who is a teacher at High School, told me about his experience. I prepared myself for the
exam I went to a training school / college where I got in touch with other teachers. A nice
anecdote was when I started to work in the same High School where I had studied. I metwith my old teachers
who taught me when I was a teenager, They were very happy, but I was shy.
To sum up all I have said, being a teacher is a good and interesting job. You learn about this profession from the first
day (that) you stand in front of students until the last lesson. When you teach around 150 students per
year, you have to face different situations, problems and experiences. In my case, I must keep updated
because my subject is related to job market.
BEING A TEACHER
On the one hand, there are several reasons for the pessimism: there are more
students in classrooms, with different levels and some boys and girls do not
study and they are demotivated. Furthermore, the society does not value the
teaching profession.
On the other hand, there are also some advantages: That is why it is an
essential task [???]. Everyone must receive an education and we always
remember the hard job of our teachers. It is very grateful to help them to be
happy, to become good people, to think, to live. So, It is a nice task teaching
them different study techniques. [???]
In short, as I have already said, working as a teacher could be a very hard work
although it involves a lot of positive things.
Are you one of those who read the Salmon pages on the newspaper just as a
pastime? Would you like to understand the economic news better? Do you think
everything is related to the way they [who are 'they'?] manage public finances??
If this is your case, you should study economics!
Learn how what the complex system in which we live is is like and as a result
you willunderstand the economic news and draw your own conclusions. Studying
economics opens a wide range of possibilities for you. You can find jobs in different
fields, from finance to the experimental economic studies. Also if you like research,
nowadayseconomics is one of the research fields where more things are
happening.
Do you want to be part of the changes on the economic paradigm? Maybe you can
be the next Paul Krugman or John Nash.
If you want to become a teacher you should think about it carefully. Why do you
want to be one? And are you able to teach? These are some important questions
that you should ask yourself.
Being a teacher is an innate vocation and not everyone has the qualities or skills
required for this kind of job. But if you dare to do it, pay attention
to thefollowing advice about what course of study to take and what is the
best way to become a teacher.
First of all, you must graduate in the subject you would like to teach; for
instance, if you want to be a Maths or Physics teacher you have to get
adegree suitable to teach these subjects, so you will acquire the
necessary knowledge.
Secondly, you must / should spend a year doing a "Spanish Teacher
Certification Programme Maters' ". This is the most important step, because you
will learn / acquire very useful skills and knowledge about how to
teachteenagers, such as psychology, teaching skills, and pedagogy.
All subject are different from
each
other, but they
all
require aninnovative teaching and learning strategies, so in this masters' you will
specialize in a teaching the branch associated with your subject. It includes
internship in a secondary and high school and a final project about it.
Finally, languages are another very useful tool. To apply for this masters' you must
have a B1 certificate in a language different from Spanish or Catalan. In addition to
this, if you want to teach in Comunidad Valenciana you must be reasonably good
at Catalan and also have a C1 Certificate in this language, because classes are
taught in both, Catalan and Spanish. Having a B2 English Certificate is very
important too, as it helps you to be a multilingual teacher.
[I'm missing a nice conclusion here...]
Design Engineering
When you are chose a career you should think about what would you like to work
on. The best thing about choosing Design Engineering is that you would be able to
develop your professional career as an artist or as an engineer, because you learn
statistics, mathematics, materials, manufacturing processes, artistic design, history
of art, etc... Those fields of knowledge will allow you to realise your skills and
improve them.
You would find a great variety in your mates [???] Besides, you will meet
people from different backgrounds, because your classmates will come from
art schools, from secondary school and technical school, so you you would be able
to share your learning concerns with them and you would help each other.
Finally, it would be a very interesting way of learning because you would mix
technical subjects with artistic ones.
As a conclusion, if you choose Design Engineering, you will have a wide range of
career choices, and you will enjoy your years of study.
Definitely ADEM
When I was told to write an article about my course of study, the first thing I did
was make a list of all the positive aspects of my degree.
As most of you know, I did business studies (ADEM) in Castelln. Well, to be
honest I must confess that ADEM was not my first choice. I wanted to study Biology
but it was not available in Castelln so I decided to study ADEM instead.
Nowadays, I will say it was definitely the best decision that I have made in my life.
First of all, I am going to explain what ADEM is. It is a four-year degree whose main
subjects are based on Economics, Marketing, Finance and Law applied to the
business world.
On the one hand, this allows you to work in multiple sectors once you graduate, like
Banks, Marketing, Financial departments, Audit, etc. Besides, in ADEM, from my
point of view, is quite easy to pass the exams if you have studied. But perhaps the
most important reason to study ADEM is that you can find a job easily.
However, the main disadvantage of studying ADEM is the lack of specialization in
any area. I mean, you learn a lot of things but you are not an expert in any of
them. And finally, I think there were too many people in the classroom in the first
year.
To conclude, I strongly recommend you to study ADEM because it allows you to
know enough information about different business areas to decide what kind of job
you want.
Becoming a teacher.
There are some special qualities you'll need if you want to be a teacher:
patience, self confidence and capacity of communication are some of the most
important ones. You must be really determined and excited about the new
role you might/will probably play for the rest of your life.
Once you decide that teaching is really what you want to do, you need to
prepare yourself not only in terms of the contents of your subject but also in
teaching competence and pedagogy. This is a weak point in (most) the
Spanish universities but it is really necessary in order to achieve the skills to help
your students to improve. One thing that really helps is to observe how others work
and the successful initiatives they develop in their schools. To do that, it will
be a good idea to go through some kind of immersion in a school before
starting working on your own in a class with 40 students.
The only thing you must never forget is that students spend most part of the day
with you as an adult model and that's a huge responsibility which sometimes we
tend to underrate.
The inclusion of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in regular schools
has become more and more prevalent. In some provinces they bet on a combined
model (Communication and Language classrooms - CL-, placed in regular schools)
where they reinforce social communication skills some hours a day on
pupils with ASD.
However, some studies suggest that such measures could increase the risk of
isolation or rejection by the classmates from regular classrooms. This study
attempts to look into the benefits and risks, at a social competence and
cognition level, of two regular schooling modalities: totally regular and combined
[???]. To achieve this goal, thirteen children divided into two groups (ordinary
modality group and CL classroom school group) were evaluated by means of
sociometric tests and Theory of Mind [?] tasks.
The analysis of the data shows that the children with ASD in a totally regular
schooling modality achieve better sociometric results, thus obtaining a greater
degree of visibility from their classmates and a perception of their own socialization
better adjusted to reality. Nevertheless, compared to the children with ASD whom
are provided with education for in a regular school with a CL classroom, they
present a lower level in abilities of Theory of Mind.
Therefore, it is concluded that, following the path to inclusion, it would be necessary
to enhance the importance of the possible measures that could be adopted in order
to improve the ToM abilities of the children with ASD attending regular schools.
To sum up, now I have a more realistic view of the course and I am very glad to
have chosen to take part in it. It is a demanding way of learning but I'm getting
used to seeing/considering it as a challenge. It is certainly nice to see that
step
by
step
your
efforts
have
results.
---------------Wow, Marilo! How could I have miss your text! Excellent! And what a lovely pic!
Thanks. I've only substituted just a few things that sound more natural to me in
English. Well done!
Nice, Noelia. Now compare my version and try to learn something from my
changes.
