Thisheartratebasedcalorieburncalculator(alsoknownasa
"heartratebasedcaloricexpenditurecalculator")providesan
estimateoftherateatwhichyouareburningcaloriesduring
aerobic(i.e.cardiorespiratory)exercise,basedonyour
averageheartratewhileperformingtheexercise.
Duringexerciseyourmusclesmustburncaloriestofueltheir
contractions.Theconversionofcaloriesfromtheirstored
nutrientstatetotheformthatcanbeburnedbyyourmuscle
cellsisachieved,duringaerobicexercise,throughtheprocess
ofcellularrespiration,whichrequiresoxygen,andthedelivery
ofoxygenthroughyourbloodstreamtoyouractivemusclecells
isdirectlyrelatedtoyourheartrate.Itisthisrelationshipthat
allowsyoutopredictyourenergyexpenditure(i.e.calorieburn)
fromyourheartrate.Essentially,withincreasedexercise
intensityyourmusclesmustburnmorecalories,andsoyourheartmustbeatfastertoprovidetheoxygen
necessarytoconvertthosecaloriestotheformofenergythatcanbeburnedbyyourmuscles.
