MSG-3 ZONAL

PURPOSE
The Zonal Analysis occurs after the Systems & Powerplant, L/HIRF and
Structural analyses are concluded. The Zonal Analysis completes the other
analyses.
CONCEPT: Comprises visual inspections, designed per zones, to check
for general conditions and safety of several systems components and
structural items located in the related zones.
OBJECTIVE: Evaluate some specific items, such as duct lines, wiring,
other structures, etc which can contribute to a possible failure.
RESULT: Results in a series of general visual inspections (GVI)
requirements and, IF NECESSARY, detailed inspections requirements
(DET) or GVI stand alone.

STANDARD ZONAL ANALYSIS

DENSITY: the density rating indicates the degree of clustering in

the zone.

IMPORTANCE: this is a measure of how important the various

components in the zone are to the safety and/or economical
operation of the aircraft.
EXPOSURE: this is a measurement of the degree to which the
zone is subjected to temperature extremes, vibration, atmospheric
exposure, and the possibility of accidental damage to systems or
structure.

STANDARD ZONAL ANALYSIS TASK CONSOLIDATION

To be a candidate for the zonal program, these are the requirements that
must be fulfilled:
System & Powerplant

Structures

L/HIRF

Type: GVI and

CAT: 6,7 or 9 and
Interval: > 6,000 FH*

Type: GVI and

CSD = AD and
It is not an ALI and
Interval:> 6,000 FC*

Type : GVI and

Interval:> 6,000 FH*

All candidate tasks for the zonal program are analyzed by the Zonal
Working Group in order to define if the zonal program can cover these
tasks or if these tasks will be kept in the related program.

EWIS DEFINITION

An EWIS is (per new 25.1701(a))

Any wire, wiring device, or combination of these, including
termination devices, installed in any area of the airplane for
the purpose of transmitting electrical energy between two or
more intended termination points....

EWIS is not (25.1701(b))

Electrical equipment or avionics qualified to acceptable
environmental conditions and testing procedures.

Portable electrical devices not part of airplane's type design.

Fiber optics.

EWIS OBJECTIVE
Revises the EZAP to include specific approach for wiring

inspection. This new requirement is based on FAA AC 25-27, which

was implemented on December, 10th 2007. The European Authority
required similar analysis.
The new rule addresses the concern about the lack of proper wiring

inspections, helping the improvement of the Instructions for Continued

Airworthiness (ICA) for wiring systems.
General Visual Inspection, Detailed Inspections or other tasks to

minimize the presence of combustible materials.
