AccelrysMaterialsStudioisacomprehensivematerialsmodelingandsimulationapplicationdesignedfor
scientistsinchemicalsandmaterialsresearchanddevelopmentaswellaspharmaceuticalsdevelopment.

AvailablePlatforms
TheAccelrysMaterialsStudioclientisonlyavailableforWindowsplatforms.Theseclientscanconnecttothe
Linuxbasedgatewaycurrentlyrunningontheclusters.

TheAccelrysMaterialsStudiodistributionisaselfextractingarchivefile.Pleaseinstallitusingthefollowing
instructions.

Locateandswitchtothedirectorywhereyoudownloadedthemaininstallationfile.
Doubleclickthemaininstallationfile.Theiconwilllooksimilartothis:

Thiswillextractthecontentsofthearchivetoanewfolderlocatedinthefolderyoudownloadedthefiles
to.ThisfolderwillbenamedMaterialsStudio##andtheiconwilllooksimilartothis
Openthefolderanddoubleclickthefilesetup.Thiswillinitiatetheinstallationprocess.

TheMaterialsStudioinstallationwizardwillnowopen.ClickNexttobegintheinstallationprocess.

Ascreenwillopenupaskingforyourusernameandorganization.Fortheusernameyoumustuse
yourPSUAccessID.UsethenameofyourresearchgroupfortheOrganizationnamefield.Thenclick
Next.

defaultlocation.

Youmayinstallallproductsorjustthevisualizer.Werecommendthedefaultofinstallingallproducts.
ClickNexttoacceptthissetting.
Thesetupinformationisalmostcomplete.Thefollowingscreenwillappear.Click'Install'.

TheinstallwizardwillnowaskifyouwishtostartupalocalgatewaysothatyoucanrunMaterialsStudio
jobsonyourlocalmachine.Selectthesettingto'Startthegatewaynow'.Lateronyoucanconfigureyour
localclienttousetheclusterbasedgateways.

TheversionofAccelrysMaterialsStudioavailablefordistributionisafullfeaturednontrialversionthat
requiresalicense.MaterialStudioisnotopensource,freewareorsharewarebutiscommerciallicensed
softwaremadeavailableunderasitelicensepurchasedbyPennStateUniversityforusebyPennStatefaculty,
staffandstudentsforuniversityrelatededucationandresearchpurposesonly.

YourlocalcomputerwhereyouwishtorunMaterialsStudiomustbeconnectedtoaactivenetworkin
ordertocontactthelicenseserver.Thecurrentlicensemanagementsystemdoesnotprovidefora
mechanismtocachealicenseforusewhennotconnectedtoanetwork.
TheMaterialsStudiolicenseiscurrentlyonlyavailabletoregisteredPennStatenetworkaddresses,
includingnonUniversityParklocations.IfyouwishtouseMaterialsStudioonPSUownedcomputers
thatareoffcampusyoumustusethePennStateAnywhere(VPN)servicewhenontheseoffcampus
networks.ThelicenseserverwillrecognizethisasaPSUconnectionandwillbeabletograntalicense.
TheremaybetimeswhencircumstancesbeyondthecontrolofRCC(e.g.networkoutages)will
temporarilypreventyoufrombeingabletoaccessthelicenseserver.Ifyouarehavingtroubleobtaininga
licensetryagaininseveralminutes.IfconnectionissuespersistcontactRCCforfurtherassistance.
