3 NEW FEATURES
3.1 Small Form Factor ODU (PTP 650S)
System Release 650-01-10 introduces a new integrated ODU option, the PTP 650S. This
new ODU has a 19 dBi small form factor integrated antenna, and was specifically designed
for short range high capacity links, or where de minimis installations are highly desirable.
The volume of the small form factor ODU is less than three litres.

3.2 Large Diameter Pole Mount Kits

To allow mounting on large diameter street furniture (e.g. lamp posts), a large diameter (up
to 225 mm) mounting kit has been developed for the standard mounting bracket.

3.3 Low Profile Mounting Bracket

To further minimise the visual impact of PTP 650S installations, a low profile mounting
bracket option has been developed. The low profile mounting bracket kit includes a large
diameter mounting kit.
See Table 2 for the Low Profile Mounting Bracket and Large Diameter Pole Mount part
numbers.

3.4 Synchronous Ethernet

System Release 650-01-10 introduces support for operation as part of an ITU-T G.781
Synchronous Ethernet Timing Hierarchy.
The Synchronous Ethernet feature is licensed by default on PTP 650S, and available via a
license key upgrade on other PTP 650 platform variants.

3.5 IEEE 1588-2008 Transparent Clock

System Release 650-01-10 introduces operation as an IEEE 1588-2008 Transparent Clock,
making residence time corrections to Precision Time Protocol event messages.
The IEEE 1588-2008 Transparent Clock feature is licensed by default on PTP 650S, and
available via a license key upgrade on other PTP 650 platform variants.

3.6 TDD Synchronisation with PTP-SYNC

System Release 650-01-10 adds support for TDD synchronisation using PTP-SYNC and is
fully backwards compatible with existing PTP 500 and PTP 600 TDD synchronised
networks.

3.7 Additional Channel Bandwidths

System Release 650-01-10 introduces support for 5, 15 and 30 MHz channel bandwidths (as
well as the existing 10, 20, 40 and 45 MHz bandwidths).

phn-3744 001v000 February 2014

Note that not all channel bandwidths are available in all regulatory regions see the User
Guide for more information.

3.8 Spectrum Expert

The existing Spectrum Management tools have been enhanced with significant new
functionality. Full details can be found in the User Guide.

3.9 Additional Frequency Bands

System Release 650-01-10 adds support for

5.2 GHz in FCC, IC, ETSI and Russian regulatory regions.

5.9 GHz in Russian regulatory regions.

Approval for use in particular countries, either:

3.10 Minimum Transmit Power

The minimum transmit power supported by the PTP 650 platform has been extended
to -15 dBm (from -11 dBm). This enhances the performance of shorter links.

3.11 Automatic Transmit Power Control Improvements

The range of the ATPC function has increased from 6 to 20 dB and the platforms maximum
receive power has been increased to -30 dBm (from -51 dBm). The ATPC Rx Target Power is
now configurable in non-radar regions.

4 PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS CORRECTED

4.1 System Release 650-01-11
IEEE 1588-2008 incorrectly updates UDP checksum
When operating with UDP over IPv4, the transparent clock feature incorrectly updated the
UDP checksum if the incoming checksum value was zero (i.e. no checksum generated by
the transmitter). This caused the packets to be dropped by the next node in the chain.
The checksum was correctly updated if the incoming checksum value was non-zero (i.e. a
checksum was generated by the transmitter).
Whether UDP checksums are used is dependent upon individual Grandmaster and Slave
Clock implementations.
This issue is resolved in 650-01-11.

4.2 System Release 650-01-10

No response to Ping from a remote subnet
ICMP (not ICMPv6) echo requests from a remote subnet were not being correctly handled.
The requesting IP address was being determined as on the local subnet, causing the echo
reply not to be returned. A side effect of this was the broadcast of ARPs for the remote IP
address on the local subnet.
The correct behaviour is for ICMP echo responses to be forwarded to the gateway when the
request comes from a remote subnet. 650-01-10 implements this behaviour.

Software upgrade status bars not displayed

On certain web browsers, the software upgrade progress bar was not displayed properly.
This issue is resolved in 650-01-10.

HTTPS connections can cause DLD upgrades to fail

Software DLD uploads could fail when using HTTPS with the error message Error invalid
package. This issue is resolved in 650-01-10.

Potential to lock users out of the unit

If View Summary and Status pages without login was un-checked and the change applied,
when the unit was rebooted the password box and login button were disabled, leaving the
user unable to login and manage the unit.
650-01-10 resolves this issue.

Reported Rx power not always applying temperature compensation

When the Rx power was within 2 dB of an AMOD down threshold, the compensation for
gain variation over temperature was not being correctly applied. This caused the Rx power
to appear to be varying over temperature (with a cabled link in an environmental chamber).
650-01-10 resolves this by applying the correct compensation for gain variation over
temperature.

Improved Burst Handling Performance

650-01-10 modifies the way frame buffers are allocated. This results in improved Ethernet
frame burst handling.

Rx Frame count is double what it should be

If the Main PSU Port was configured for data only, the Aux Port for OOB Local, and the SFP
Port disabled, then after a reboot the Main PSU Port Rx Frame Count counted double.
This issue is resolved in 650-01-10.

Main Port Tx Drops Counter counts incorrectly

If the SFP port was configured for OOB Local Management with no SFP present, the Main
PSU Port Tx Drops counter incorrectly incremented as management frames were sent out.

phn-3744 001v000 February 2014

This issue is resolved in 650-01-10.

Main/Aux/SFP Tx Frames Port Counter is counting management frames which are

not transmitted
When a remote unit was being managed over the wireless link, the remote units Tx Frame
Counter incorrectly included frames destined for the units management agent.
This issue is resolved in 650-01-10.

5 KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS

MLD general listener query messages
The PTP 650 ODU does not process IPv6 Multicast Listener Discovery version 1 (MLDv1)
general listener query messages reliably.

ODU does not adjust MTU based on receiving Packet Too Big message
The PTP 650 ODU does not adjust its MTU in use for the management agent upon receiving
an ICMPv6 packet too big message.

Jitter tolerance above 400 Hz with 1000Base-T

At present, there are no ITU-T test criteria for measuring jitter tolerance in a 1000BASE-T
interface. When PTP 650 is tested using the equivalent criteria for 1 Gbps optical
interfaces, the amplitude is greater than 1.0 UI above 400 Hz. The inferred ITU-T
requirement is 1.5 UI for frequencies above 250 Hz.

Wander transfer function fails EEC Option 1 and Option 2 in G.8262

The peak gain of the wander transfer function within the passband of the tracking loop is
0.7 dB compared with the 0.2 dB requirement in ITU-T recommendation G.8262 (Option 1).
The bandwidth of the tracking loop in PTP 650 is somewhat greater than the 0.1 Hz
requirement for EEC Option 2 networks, and consequently PTP 650 does not comply with
the wander transfer limits in Table 13 of G.8262. This is not likely to be a problem in typical
applications of PTP 650, where the number of Synchronous Ethernet nodes is small.

Phase error caused by disconnecting and reconnecting SyncE slave port

There is sometimes a phase transient of up to 660 ns at PTP 650 Sync E outputs if the ODU
makes a transition from tracking to holdover triggered by physical disconnection of the
incoming Sync E reference. This phase transient does not occur if the transition to holdover
is triggered by a change in the QL of the received reference.
