conditionaccordingtotheconfigurationofseveralsystemparameterslikechannelbandwidthand
antennaselection.
TheePMPSystemcreatesapointtomultipointorapointtopointwirelessbroadbandconnection
transmittingaradiosignalwithOFDMmodulationandMIMOtransmissiontechnique.

OFDM(OrthogonalFrequencyDivisionmultiplexing)isamulticarrierradiosignalmodulationbasedon
thesubdivisionofthebroadbandchannelintoorthogonallypositionedsubcarriers,eachofwhichis
modulatedbasedonaconventionalmodulationscheme.WiththeOFDMtechnique,averyhighdata
ratecanbeobtainedincreasingthesystemsspectrumefficiency.
ThefollowingarethesubcarriersmodulationschemeswhichcanbeusedbytheePMPSystem:
QPSK
16QAM
64QAM
Eachmodulationsupportsmultiplecodingrates.Forexample64QAMsupportscodingrates5/6,3/4
and2/3.
TheOFDMchannelbandwidthcanbeconfiguredwithoneoffourpossiblevalues:5MHz,10MHz,20
MHzand40MHz.Widerchannelbandwidthconfigurationsallowforgreaterconnectioncapacityasthe
signaloccupiesalargerportionofthespectrum.Narrowerchannelbandwidthconfigurationsincrease
receptionsensitivityandallowformoreopportunitiestooperateinspectrumconstrainedRF
environments.
ThechannelbandwidthmustbeconfiguredwiththesamevaluesinboththeAPandSMmodulesofthe
ePMPSystem.

MIMO(MultipleInputMultipleOutput)radiotransmissionoffersthecapabilityofincreasingthe
capacityofaradioconnectionbytransmittingandreceivingparallelsignalsonseparateTx/Rxchains.
WhenthebenefitsoftheMIMOtechniquesarecombinedwithOFDMsignalingandhighsystemgain,
operatorscanachieveahighlyrobustradioconnectioninconditionsofnonlineofsight(NLOS)
propagation.TheePMPSystemuses2x2MIMOwithtworadioreceiversandtwotransmittersinboth
theAPmoduleandtheSMmodule,transmittinginbothdirectionstworadiosignalsinthesame
frequency.Onesignalisverticallypolarizedandtheothersignalishorizontallypolarized,withdual
streammode:thesystemtransmitstwodistinctparalleldataflowsonebywayofthevertically
polarizedradiosignalandtheotherbywayofthehorizontallypolarizedradiosignal.Inthisway,the
ePMPSystemdoublesitstransmissioncapacity.
TheePMPsystemalsooffersasinglestreammode,inwhichbothtransmitchainstransmitthesame
data,whichisthencombinedatthereceiver.Thismodeimprovesthesensitivityofthesystemand
increasestherange.

CambiumNetworksofferstwosectorantennastobeusedwiththeAPmoduleoftheePMPSystemto

Typesofconnections
TheePMPSeriescanprovideLOS(LineOfSight)connectivity,nLOS(nearLineOfSight)connectivityand
NLOS(NonLineOfSight)connectivity.Adefinitionofthesedifferentpropagationconditionsarethe
following.
