Medical centres run by the Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development Programme with financial help from Dr.

Yegna Subramanian.

14 Medical centres are run in the districts of Kanyakumari


and Tirunelveli. Qualified doctors and compounders visit the medical
centres to two to three times a week. The local patients arrive at a
centre arranged peermanently by the local people. The room, funds,
water supply, furniture are all provided by the local people. The
doctors examined the patients for disease and treats the ordinary
illnesses and advice them on diet, hygiene and health care. Patients
with serious cases and case involving long term treatment are
advised to referral centres. Some cases are advised for re-visit.

Common illnesses found in Nagercoil unit medical centre


are

viral fever, Bacterial skin infections, Arthritis, Gastro intestinal

infections / Diarrhoea, Chronic Bronchitis / Asthma, URTI / Tonsillitis,


Peptic Ulcer, Eye infection / Cataract of eye, Cervical / Lumbar Spondylosis, Anemia/Vitamin deficiency, worm infections, dermatitis / Eczema,
urinary tract infections, menorrhoegia, Leucorrhoea, Renal calculi
disease, Headache/migraise, Fungal skin infections, injuries, ear
infection.

In Tirunelveli District the common illnesses found are


Diabetes, Asthma, Chronic wound, mental retarded, Alleggic Dermatitis, Jaundice, Hyper Tension, Renal Stone, Scabied, Traumatic wound,
insect bite, urinary tract infection, burning wound, peptic ulcer, knee

joint pain, eczema, sinusittis, hemiplegia, bronchial Asthma, Chronic


Bronchitis, para psoriasis, anaemeia, osteo arthritis, cervical
spondriosis wound, Gastric ulcer, fever.

In Shencottah part from the common illnesses some chronic


illnesses have been diagnized by the Doctor.

The Medical system is supported by consultations on diet,


nutrition, purifying water and other hygiene measures. The doctors
also guide the patients for contacting specialization. The primary health
services rendered under this scheme is supplemented by the large
scale community, eye care scheme run by the Kendra. In these
districts with the technical help of the reputable eye hospital of Aravind
Eye care system, Tirunelveli. The health care services start from
pre-primary creches of the Kendra were creche children at special
medical visits. The health care scheme extends up to elderly people
are 100 upwhome have been conducted by the Kendra in its adapt the
granny scheme. In this manner, the Vivekananda Kendra admits to
serve all sections of the society. Dr.Yegna Subramanians munificent
financial help place a significant role in this scheme.

The

beneficiaries thanked Dr. Yegna Subramanian whole-heartedly for this


generous help. Many of the elderly rural people would have continued
to severe because they cannot afford to pay the consultation fees for
going to a Doctor. In Kendra these services are rendered free.
Enabling the poor, the elderly, the women folk and the children to the
avail of medical services.
