Instructions on Assessment:
You will be assessed by the following elements:

Produce a 3500 word individual essay analysing and assessing your own leadership capability
and competence.
You are required to integrate 2-3 relevant leadership theories of your choice and critically
discuss and compare your own leadership attributes and capabilities against the frameworks
selected.
You are expected to draw your work to a close by providing a conclusion based on the findings
and insights gained, highlighting your future personal and professional leadership
development areas.
You will need to incorporate your development areas into a personal development plan (to be
included in the appendix).

Submitting Written Assignments/Reports/Reflections/Evaluations etc.


For all written pieces of work, you need submit a front sheet (Title Page) including the following:

Title page stating the title of your assessment,

Overall word count,

Your name and student number,

Your programme of study,

The hand-in date,

Module code, module title and module leaders name,

List of references (excluded from word count) for all submissions.

Requirements:
1. Your assignment should be structured with an introduction that clearly articulates the
leadership topics that will be discussed, providing the reader with an indication of the intent of
the work.
2. The main body of your work should begin by introducing and defining the concept and
importance of leadership and leadership development and how these notions impact upon
your role.
3. Your work should introduce and critically discuss two to three leadership theories of your
choice in relation to your own personal leadership development. A clear connection between
theoretical constructs and practical examples should be evident in your writing, drawing upon
previous leadership and organisational experience. Liberal referencing is required to illustrate
an examination of robust sources of research material.
4. You need to conduct a critical self-analysis of your own personal leadership strengths and
weaknesses using relevant diagnostic tools and techniques available (those covered in class
as well as sought from personal research). You are expected to incorporate diagnostic tools
including emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, transformational leadership, adjective
lists and other leadership assessment tools. In addition, you are required to make a
comparison of your leadership skills and capabilities against a selected
leadership/management competency framework of your choice that will support you in
evaluating your own leadership skills and behaviours further.
5. Your assignment should conclude by summarising the findings and insights gained from your
research and reading, highlighting 2-3 key areas of improvement for your future personal and
professional leadership development areas. You must include clear reasoning of how you
intend to improve your identified development needs, outlining why these areas are
particularly relevant to your career development and future achievements as a leader.
6. You will need to incorporate your improvement areas into a personal development plan (to be
included in the appendix).
7. The evidence (from diagnostic tools and tests) should be presented in the appendices and
analysed within the main body of your report.

All work will be assessed in accordance with the generic postgraduate assessment criteria
provided in your programme handbook. You will receive written feedback for your assignment
within four weeks of submission.
