Safety Precautions
A

The Contractor shall comply fully with the Owners specific safety requirements and
with the Labor Departments regulations for safety on Construction sites. Before
commencing each particular element of work, the Contractor must submit his
Method Statement, detailing the safety measures to be implemented for the review
of the Project Manager and Construction Manager.

The Contractor must comply with all the recommendations contained within the
safety manual published by The Philippine Constructors Association Inc. In particular,
the Contractor shall provide details to the Project Manager and the Construction
Manager, for review, of all aspects of the safety precautions to be adopted by the
Contractor in connection with demolition, disposal of debris, lifting of materials and
fire hazards, and he shall maintain such approved safety precautions throughout the
execution of the Work. The Contractor should also comply with the Guidelines
Governing Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry issued by
the Department of Labor and Employment. The Main Contractor shall have the over
all responsibility for the compliance with the above regulations and guidelines.

C The Project Managers approval of any of the Contractors Method Statements shall
not relieve the Contractor from his sole responsibility for carrying out the Work safely.

The Contractor shall keep constantly on the Work a Safety Officer, with suitable
qualification and proven experience, to ensure the safety of all operations on the Site
and to take every precaution to protect the general public from injury or death.

The Contractor shall provide sufficient protective clothing, safety helmets, boots and
harnesses etc for the use of Contractors on-Site personnel. The Main Contractor shall
make available suitable Personal Protective Equipment for any authorized visitor to
the Site.

The Main Contractor shall display during the hours of daylight such flags, signals and
markings and such lights, during the hours of darkness, as the Authorities may require
for safety purposes.

G Any accident must be reported in writing by the Contractor to the Project Manager
and the Construction Manager within twenty-four hours of the event, with comment
on how to prevent such accident from happening again in the future.

The Main Contractor shall display, in prominent positions, the identities of those who
are available for rendering first aid.

1.2 Traffic Control Requirements and Regulations


A

It shall be the Main Contractors responsibility to ensure that the roads leading to and
around the Site are kept free from obstruction brought about by the Work on the Site
and in no way shall he cause any hindrance to traffic or ancillary work either by his
own vehicles or by his workmen, materials, etc.

The Main Contractor shall verify with the Authorities whether any restrictions exist on
the free passage, at any time, of vehicles or plant approaching or leaving the Site,
and shall provide against any limitation of such free passage. The Contractor shall
obtain all necessary permits to park his vehicles adjacent to the Work and pay all
charges in connection therewith.

C The Main Contractor shall comply in all respects with all road traffic regulations
(particularly lighting and guarding of road Work) including providing adequate
signing, lighting and barriers to all work in roadways and footpaths necessitated
during the execution of the Work.
D

If the Main Contractor fails to provide the signs as specified when ordered, the
Project Manager or the Construction Manager may take remedial action as he
deems appropriate, including the ordering of signs from another source. Under such
circumstances, the costs incurred by the Owner shall be recoverable by deducting
such costs from payment due to the Main Contractor.
