Prlogo
La produccin de leche de bovino es una actividad
estratgica, ya que es un alimento bsico para el desarrollo
humano. En nuestro pas, la produccin de leche es insuficiente
para cubrir la demanda nacional por lo que histricamente se ha
importado ao con ao. Alrededor del 50 % de la produccin
nacional se produce bajo el sistema intensivo en cuencas como
La Laguna, Aguascalientes, Delicias y Quertaro entre otras.
En estas cuencas lecheras la produccin de leche se basa en
la utilizacin de la alfalfa. Por mas de 10 aos el INIFAP ha
llevado a cabo estudios experimentales con la aplicacin del
mtodo cientfico para generar la tecnologa de produccin de
maz forrajero de alto rendimiento y calidad nutricional en
ambientes ridos semiclidos y semiridos templados. Esta
tecnologa permite obtener una alta productividad de forraje,
eficiencia en el uso del agua de riego y ensilados de alta calidad
nutricional, con lo cual, se puede reducir costos de alimentacin,
mejorar el uso del agua de riego y usar menos granos en la
alimentacin del ganado lechero. En este libro MAZ
FORRAJERO DE ALTO RENDIMIENTO Y CALIDAD
NUTRICIONAL se presentan los fundamentos cientficos de
esta tecnologa, que es aplicable a regiones similares a los
ambientes ecolgicos en que fue generada. Con esta tecnologa,
el INIFAP contribuye a su misin de mejorar la competitividad y
sostenibilidad de la cadena agroalimentaria de leche de bovino
y a la seguridad alimentaria del pas.

Los hbridos ABT-6003Y, ABT-7820, ABT-6002Y, ABT7015Y y ABT-7087 tuvieron mayor potencial para produccin de
leche por hectrea (13,150 kg ha-1 a 16,632 kg ha-1) que los
dems hbridos (P<0.05). El hbrido ABT-7087 tuvo menor
rendimiento de materia seca (17.64 ton ha-1), pero debido su
mayor digestibilidad in vitro (79.25 %) tuvo una buena produccin
de leche por hectrea.
En el experimento efectuado en Aguascalientes se
detectaron como hbridos sobresalientes en produccin de materia

seca por hectrea a Pantera, AS-31, P-3028W, DK-801, DK202, AS-948 y AS-910, con rendimientos superiores a 21 ton/ha
de materia seca. En porcentaje de mazorca, los mejores hbridos
tuvieron ms de 47.0 % (Cuadro 2.19).
En relacin a la calidad nutricional (Cuadro 2.20), se encontr
diferencia estadstica para contenido de protena cruda (P<0.05).
Los mejores hbridos tuvieron mas de 8.5 % de protena cruda.
En contenido de fibra, sobresalieron (P<0.01) hbridos con menos
de 48.0 % de FDN y menos de 24.0 % de FDA. Las digestibilidad
in vitro de los hbridos se consideran buenas en base a estudios
anteriores; sin embargo, sobresalieron los hbridos D-867 y D861 con valores mayores de 80.0 %.
En produccin de leche por hectrea se detectaron 16
hbridos sobresalientes con una produccin de 13,843 a 16,733
kg ha-1, que es muy similar al rango en la Regin Lagunera. La
importancia de la digestibilidad in vitro en la produccin de leche
por hectrea se puede observar en el caso del hbrido D-875
que tuvo una produccin de leche por hectrea menor a pesar
de tener un alto rendimiento de materia seca por hectrea (21.13
ton ha-1). Lo anterior debido a una menor digestibilidad in vitro
(76.02 %). Por otra parte, Lobo 501 con una buena digestibilidad
in vitro (79.36 %) tuvo menor potencial de produccin de leche
por hectrea debido a su menor produccin de materia seca
(14.66 ton ha-1).
Estos resultados indican que en general los hbridos con
rendimientos de materia seca por hectrea mayores de 17.0 ton
ha-1 y digestibilidades superiores de 77.0 % tuvieron los mayores
potenciales para produccin de leche por hectrea en la Regin
Lagunera y para Aguascalientes,los hbridos con rendimientos
de materia seca por hectrea mayores de 18 ton/ha y 76 % de
digestibilidad in vitro.

Normalmente las infestaciones se inician en las orillas de
los lotes donde existen caminos de terracera, y usualmente
empiezan por las hojas inferiores y prosiguen hacia arriba. Al
inicio de la infestacin se observan pequeas colonias de caros
de color blanquecino y polvoso por el envs de las hojas de maz.
Los caros succionan la savia de la planta y su ataque se
manifiesta como manchas rojizas por el haz de las hojas. Si esta
plaga no se controla oportunamente puede causar que el follaje
se seque prematuramente, seguido de la defoliacin de la planta.
Las altas temperaturas y condiciones de baja humedad en el
cultivo favorecen el incremento de la plaga.
