About PMA

Objectives

The principal purposes of the Association are to develop and promote Marketing
as a science and a profession guided principally by the universal principles of
ethics, corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility and to serve as a
policy-making and re commendatory arm of the government on Marketing related
issues.

Its other purposes are as stated in the Articles of Incorporation of the

Association.

The Founders

In January 27, 1954, the Philippine Marketing Association was born in the
minds of 15 men and women determined to develop marketing into a science
and a noble profession: Conrado P. Angeles, Marcela M. Baldoz, Agustin Tan
Bibiana, Anastacio de Castro, Antonio R. de Joya, Pancracio Estayo, Cirilo S.
Honorio, Remigio M. Kalalang, Emilio M. Maceda, Jose R. L. Orosa, Manuel S.
Rustia, Teofilo P. Sison, Sr., nathaniel Tablante, C.C. Unson, Sr., and Santiago
Yap.

Theirs was a vision simple and clear. To create awareness on the power of
marketing in business, industry and the academe, both here and abroad.
The PHILIPPINE JUNIOR MARKETING ASSOCIATION brought us the
most anticipated, the biggest delegation of marketing students and professionals
in one DOME! STRATMARK “WHAT’S HOT? WHAT’S COOL?” It was held in
the New Cuneta Astrodome, on September 04, 2009, Friday at 8AM.

It was the 7th National Strategic Marketing conference and competition.

It allows all of the students who attended this seminar to discover the hot
and cool marketing careers and opportunities from top executives coming from
various industries. From cool jobs in Business Process Outsourcing to new
media and social networking. Learning has never been this EXCITING.

Since it was my first time to go to the New Cuneta Astrodome, I decided to

go to the place with two of my friends who’s also a marketing students and
familiar with the said place. We arrived there at 8:30AM or so. I thought we were
already late since it was indicated in the invitation or I should say “tickets” that it
will start at 8AM. The seminar was not exactly started at 8AM but an hour or so
after 8AM. Of course, I could say that we were lucky that the seminar started late
than what we expected wherein we were able to witness all the happenings at
the seminar.

It was my first time also to attend a STRATMARK. At first, I was thinking

that I will not attend the seminar because the place was too far from our place.
Then I was amazed seeing students who came from different school all over the
country. Some of them came at the New Cuneta Astrodome at 3AM, as far as I
remember those were the students coming from Tarlac and Pangasinan. I
realized that we, Trinitians are lucky because it doesn’t took us a long trip like 6
hours or so just to get there in the place.

Ms. Mylene Abiva, the President and CEO Philippine Marketing

Association did the introduction speech. She came inside the New Cuneta
Astrodome riding a motorcycle and calls herself “Hot Momma”. She discussed
about what’s in the heart and mind of the youth today. According to Ms. Abiva,
youth are the heavy consumers of media and technology. I agree that we, the
youth of this generation, are the heavy consumers of those products because
wherever I go almost all young people have the new gadgets like laptops, cell
phones and the likes. After Ms. Abiva’s introductory speech, it was followed by
the PMA Director, Marketing Manager of PAX Associated Marketing and
Management Services, Ms. Mayeth Cadungog. She just introduced and welcoe
all of the guest speakers. Then after that, three consecutive speakers discussed
about their success, on how they started and the hardships they’ve been through
before becoming to what they are today. After having heard all of those
speeches, at last we had our lunch at around 12NN. I could say that the food
satisfied me in a way that it tastes good, though I heard from some students that
they were not satisfied with the food that they ate. Some students said that “Yun
na ba yung 400php ko?” which made me think that the food that they ate was just
a part of seminar and what’s important was the things or words that they have
learned from the experiences of the guest speakers. Because for me it is hard to
talk in front of a huge crowd wherein you have to do your best just to get their
attention and make them lend their ears to you as a speaker. Some would say
that the seminar was boring but I would say that it’s just a matter of listening and
it’s up to you if you’re going to let yourself be bored.

Jamea Garcia, Executive Director for Talent Development, Business

Processing Association; Dodji Bringas, Executive Director, Asia Pacific Film
Institute and; Bam Aquino, President of Microventures, Inc., these are the
speakers that gave me ideas and lessons on how to become successful in our
careers life.

Jamea Garcia, Executive Director for Talent Development; Business

Processing Association which gave us insights on what is the real meaning of
BPO and what job can fit us in the business sector being a Marketing students.
She also told us about a brief history of their company and she said that call
centers are big part of Business Process Outsourcing since this industry has no
limit. But the most high up idea that she left to all of us was this phrase “Hindi
pwede ang pwede na attitude of excellence.” It was so remarkable for us,
students, that we should become better than who we are and it is alright to gain
success slowly than to end up nothing because we’re just embracing the phrase
“pwede na”.

Dodji Bringas, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Film Institute was the
next speaker who was very pleasant and appealing to the audience because of
his very young age and pleasing personality. He taught us about the business of
film-making, film- the motion picture through advertising. He made some
commercials which earned him big money; he also directed movies such as Muro
Ami and Jose Rizal which became one of the best outstanding movies of our
history. He told us how the power of media can influence the minds of the
people. How influential advertisements are in the success of endorsing product.
He also said that whatever we want to become we should work for it and do our
best to achieve our goals and dreams in life.

Bam Aquino, President of Microventure Inc., discussed about the new

way of doing business, as a means of helping solve the country’s problems—
poverty the foremost among them. Microventures advocate the social business
enterprise agenda. They aspire for there company to become the preferred
“Business Partner of the Poor.” He said that they don’t see the poor as their
consumers, but rather, their partners in creating new markets and business
opportunities, for themselves as well as their communities.
Microventures helps in the development of viable and sustainable business
models for microentrepreneurs, the empowerment of microentrepreneurs through
capacity-building, and the formation of strategic partnerships with microfinancing
Institutions and other organizations.
Hapinoy is the main program under Microventures, Inc. It is a network of
micro, small, medium and large enterprises working together for the benefit of all,
but with a clear mandate to support the smallest in the chain. Hapinoy offers
capital, cheaper goods, training, and store branding.

All in all, I enjoyed and at the same time learned from the STRATMARK. I
thank God that I was given an opportunity to attend this kind of seminar which
really inspires me to pursue my dreams and what I want to become. I am looking
forward for the next year’s STRATMARK. I am ready to spend whole day again
just to listen to successful entrepreneurs and have fun at the same time.
